Wife gets cold, any ideas?

We ride 2 up and she gets cold when the temps are in the teens or lower. Anyone have any experience with the 12v or battery powered heated vests that motorcyclist use? Any ideas would be helpful. She is wearing FXR clothing and is layered.

No experience with those vests, sorry. It sounds like she's dressing properly. My wife did the 2-up thing once and decided she'd rather be on her own sled, so I guess that would be my suggestion!

I have heard that the heated vests work very well. You can also get a heated seat and heaters for the inside of your boots. They all run off of 12V and if memory serves they don't really draw that much power. Not being a cycle guy anymore, I think the charging systems are more robust on them vs. a snowmobile. Might tax your charging system a bit more on a sled but IMO....so what....if the wife is happy....everybody is happy!! LOL!! Mount a 2nd battery in the sled to power all of the heating equipment!

I bought this vest for my wife and she loves it.

The heated golf vest sounds like it might be a good investment and doesn't require hooking up (or over taxing your sled charging system) and then Mittons and boots....get those chemical packets available everywhere....put two in each boot one on instep and other along leg. One in each mitton and she will be toasty.

One concern you need to watch tho is to make sure that she does not get sweaty....as that will chill you fastest. It is no fun if you are cold...but I always believe that function over form is the rule of the day. Who cares what it looks like so long as you are comfortable. Change out for fashion later on.

My wife also gets cold on our two up. We layer, have good clothing, and some heated itmes. Unfortunately what works best is to stop and have her move around a little BEFORE she gets cold.

Bought the Venture heated base layer for the wife not for on the sled (as she drives her own) but when we are at the Derby Track or outside watching racing, etc. http://www.thewarmingstore.com/venture-heat-heated-base-layer-for-women.html
I bought it on ebay for $97 shipped plus its battery operated instead of wired./

I also have Gerbing 12V heated socks size medium that were never used that are wired to the sled with on-off and disconnect. I can ship to you for $30 if you are interested.

My wife has a 12 volt wired heated vest and heated gloves that plug into the vest. We do not ride a 2 up, so I’m not sure how you would wire it in for a passenger. She hasn’t had any issues with it over taxing the sleds electrical system. We rode 2 weeks ago in 20 plus below temps and no more complaints. When the wife is happy, everybody is happy!

Yea, I couldnt imagine riding on the back of a two up on a cold day. I recommend switching places once in a while to let her drive and warm up. After a while, when she realizes its more fun and warmer to drive, she'll buy her own sled.;)

My wife loves her heated gear (jacket and gloves) for snowmobiling and motorcycling. She however is on her own machines, but loves to be warm.

This is what she uses and I also have a 90W jacket and gloves I use on the motorcycle in cold weather.

She also uses Columbia heated boots on the snowmobile and never has a complaint of cold feet anymore. They work very well for her.

If you hunt around you can find some good deals on the boots.

The 65W Warm n safe jacket is not quite so taxing on the small output stators out there.

Good luck, it is nice to have the wife along on trips sometimes. They're better at some things than your buddies. LOL.

My wife loves snowmobiling and really never seems to be too cold, although she does dress for the conditions. We have the best trips together and it seems like either shes riding faster or I'm slowing down because I never have to wait for her anymore.

That's the best answer yet, but make sure that you don't have any communicators, complete isolation and warmth!!

Seriously, I'm sooooo glad the wife doesn't like riding sleds, because I enjoy getting out and just worrying about myself, and nobody else, its a good way to re-charge the batteries to cope with the crazy fast past lives we have.
