There's no "John Dee" for up there, but from what I can tell it looks like a 24 hour period of rain, late Wednesday - late Thursday, with normal temps behind it, including a bit of snow. This is our only chance for a late last ride so I think we're going to take our chances. Hopefully everything Friday and after will be good. They have a ton of snow up there. We don't really ride through towns much so that shouldn't be an issue. Plan is to ride Searchmont - Halfway - Dubreville - White River - Marathon and then return. We haven't been West of White River so we're excited to check that out.

Strangely enough at 10PM Tuesday night it is 42 degrees in Houghton and 36 in Green Bay.

not a complaint a fact
and all I did was ask, if winter is off two months, how did it miss here then??

Rode over 300 miles Sat/Sun in Vilas, fantastic.... traffic was light I thought..... a little rain and a day or two in the 40's isn't going to kill the trails.... the plowed roads may start the spring burn down, but trails will be just fine.... I predict we will sled to the end, March 31st.

Have you checked the long range forecast? If they are correct, WI riding is done for the year.

You live in PA, not the north woods. You remind me of the IL guys who complain about lack of snow (same latitude as you). You live too far south for reliable snow, so if you don't like it, move. It's also an El Nino year, so I'm just happy we got as much riding in as we did. It was a pretty good year, considering that.

And winter is not "off by two months". That's nonsense.

I don't know. It was not much different last night in Indianapolis either, strange. Normally it's quite a bit warmer down here obviously. One year I put the spring fertilizer down on the yard in the morning and drove up to Eagle River that afternoon to ride the next day with plenty of snow up there.

truer words were never spoken

it's what you got to do now since the snow line moved farther north after a couple 2 to 3 years of me telling you this it might sink in

Yeah we're going. We're just leaving Thursday morning instead of Wednesday afternoon. That trail heading to Marathon has only been reopened for 2 seasons now. They reopened the one that heads straight West to Geraldton, so hopefully they can make a loop again sometime soon. That trail between Dubreville and White River is incredible, so looking forward to seeing it the rest of the way to Marathon.

Hey, you got my attention, and I'm excited now! I miss read this at first, my bad. Wishing you the best on the run. How's that new Cat treating you? Too bad they can't reopen Dubreuiville to Missanobie, to Chapleau. Very nice scenery on that run. Gorgeous!

HAHAH
last we spoke, you said you';d look into hings and get back to me on your other tread ??
so which is it, winter is 2 months off, or its moved north?
or gather ist both?
yet north of me, didn;t have much snow this yr either, so, ?? HUMM< how is it that it moved north of me if there isn;t snow there and well 2 months later, and still no snow there?? that math ain't adding up!
so why would I listen to you?? 1 yr 2 yr or 10 yrs
the info isn;t working out as your telling it!

I did one better too, I sold my sled LOL
trailers going tomorrow
but sadly its more due to heath reasons than cause I want out of this sport!\
Love the sport, and I am GLAD and enjoy seeing and hearing about you guys that still can ride and enjoy it
BUT I don't buy the crap about weather some of you sell!
winters are NOT what they used to be, here, there or else where! LOL

It's good so far. Didn't get out as much as I wanted this winter, but my kids will only be young once...

We were at Ernie's last year and they talked about getting that trail open again - hopefully they'll figure out how to get it done soon. It would really tie that area together nicely. Seems like a little more km's of trail get reopened each year up there. We never rode up there in the years when it was wide open, but I'm not sure the economy will ever be what it was up there, so who knows if they'll get everything open again.

That restaurant in Hawk Junction reopened, so we're hoping to go by there this weekend. Polarisrider1 was always talking about that place. Not sure what ever happened to him

That's true; they are a lot colder and snowier now than they were in the 1930s. The 1970s were not a benchmark for what your winters should be like in PA. They were colder and snowier than average. Why do you pick that decade instead of one before you were born?

I am stating the 1970's(80-90 as well)
as I am saying weather has been getting warmer and not as consistent as it used to be!
going back farther doesn't impress me or change my opinion, as I still say there is a HUMAN factor that is altering things in some way, like it or not
things are NOT the same as they were farther back due to population increase and the development of the world as is NOW
when anyone wants to tell me how things are two month's off as an answer I say BS< that is NOT true period
if one wants to say winter has moved north, I call same BS< as north is NOT getting more snow either!
I am just replying to things posted too by the way, not starting a cry or complain!

we had snow here for yrs and yrs and lately DON"T have any for a several yrs now
if its a swing, or what ever!
OK, a yr or so, but when your going many yrs, something is off IMO!
and constant extreme swings in temps is NOT normal period HERE!
we typically have a range of NORMAL temps per time/date, and they have NOT been on average at all either ALL yr, NOT just winter time!

You are basing your opinion on feelings and propaganda from the carbon tax pushers (aka Mainstream Media), rather than science and data. The data says that you are very wrong. This is the average January temperature for Ironwood MI.

As you can see, the temperature has always fluctuated wildly from year-to-year. Look at 1906. It was a balmy 19.6° average, and just a few years later in 1912, it was one of their coldest on record, at -5.3°. And like most of the country, their warmest decade for January was the 1930s, not the last few decades. There were more winters in the 30s that averaged 19° or higher than in the entire last century COMBINED, yet you still believe that recent warm winters are unprecedented. You have been lied to, and even when presented with data that proves you wrong, you stick your head in the sand and refuse to consider that your opinion might be wrong.

I can relate to what your saying mrbb. I have been told several times earlier, that my memories are not real, and others like wise weren't real also. Pictures don't lie, nor do many others who remember the same as I. My life is spread over almost seven decades, five plus decades being involved with snowmobiling in many midwest states. NWS archives agree, and so do snowmobile sales/registrations. Many areas in Wis. that we used to be able ride on a regular basis, go years now with very little riding, if any at all. The strip mine lakes, at home, that we would ice fish in my younger years, with thick ice, don't freeze enough now to be able to do so. There again, pictures. I'm not pushing any agenda here like some. I'm just relating to what I have experienced in my life. Perhaps I'm too old, and seen too much? Whatever, I say so what!

You are correct sir and so what you're telling us is it's getting warmer ....okay ...and this is what I say is happening instead of the planet getting warmer that line of Frost and snow is actually moving northward which would appear of what you see as a young boy to an old man has gotten warmer... it's the same thing but two different ways of looking at it.... and mrbb both things are happening the two months and the line moving further north.... you should see rain right now and the Earth is trying to correct itself and then it's going to go out of that wobble and back into winter for at least another month and then it will start summer right away because it'll be trying to correct itself where in the transition it is what it is due to the pole migrating towards Russia

So short answer to the OP.... the trails in that area should be good till middle of April late April because of a huge storm is coming right after this rain event...my opinion

Sounds like you have an advanced degree in meterology? Or climatology? I'd seriously consider starting your own website with all this infinite wisdom.
Check the extended forecast for northern WI. Lots of snow there now, but mix in about a foot of water on top and you have a quagmire.

You and MRBB like to blame warm winters on humans. I wonder who they blamed in the 1930s, when they had the longest stretch of warm winters on record in the entire USA (much worse than anything in our lifetimes). Did they blame humans, too? Maybe they blamed aliens, or though that God was mad at them? :)
