Heading up to the Northwood's next weekend and looking for a place that has great steak and prime rib. Will be sledding in the Vilas and Iron counties.
Thanks for help must be on or close to snowmobile trails.

Haven't ridden that area in while so not sure if these places are still there but The bear bar in Winchester which was more like a traditional supper club, Pine lake lodge between mercer and hurley or Iron nugget in hurley all had good food but not sure if still there or not, hopefully someone else will chime in, haven't ridden state side for close to 10 years

Bear Bar in Winchester is no longer open. Pine Lake Lodge is there and we stopped in a couple of weeks ago. No complaints. Cranberry Inn in Mercer and Ding-A-Ling just south of Mercer are good options as well. Smokey's, Tower Inn, Aurora Borealis and Little Bohemia in Manitowish Waters are good options. Skyview in Presque Isle used to be good but I have not been there for dinner in a few years. I have no reason to believe it is not still a good choice. Guide's Inn in Boulder is good too.

Went to Smokey's a few years ago and they made us take all of our gear off so they could stuff it down in their basement. "It has a SMELL you know", meanwhile they sat us next to some old woman sitting in a puddle of strong perfume. Bad experience but the food was good.

Headwaters in Boulder Junction is also good and snowmobile friendly.

Marty's Place North! Excellent food! Always bring the wife there when we ride up that way. The place is supposed to be haunted. The place was listed on a Wisconsin PBS show that reviewed some of the best supper clubs in Wisconsin. The other place we like to go, I only know of the chef by name. They call him Chef Rene. He was making food just south of the Waters in Minocqua at a golf resort (not accessible by trail). This dude prepares some of the best fish we have ever had (if you like that). I asked about him at the front desk, and they knew exactly who I was talking about.

Thanks for to great options. we will be riding in the sayner, star lake, mercer and hurley areas.

I think Pine Lake Lodge is your place, busy so call for a reservation or go early. It is right off the trail in Oma "about" half way between Hurley and Mercer where the lake-effect snow begins dwindling as you go south.
FYI; the place is also for sale.

Quick tip- Stay as far away from Sayner as possible..trails around that area are always over-used.

Combination of over-used, limited routes in/out, and trails on sandy dirt that never sets when it's groomed. I haven't been there in winter in a couple years, even though it's close.

If you ever find yourself near Niagara WI (close to Iron Mountain MI) T&T is one of the best. Go there every time we are up that way.

No kidding. You ever order an old fashion at a restaurant? Or with a bartender under 50? Disgusting......

Marty's place North in Manitowish waters area is fantastic and a nice "supper club" ambiance !! right on 51 easily accessible from trail or car. Little Bohemia is neat because of the FBI VS John Dillinger shoot out. Still bullet holes in the glass and walls.

What does a supper club have to offer that a restaurant doesn't?

A dining experience from a different time, when things weren't rushed. Not just a meal for sustenance. Carousels filled with fresh relishes and homemade dressings brought to your table. Choice of soup or salad without having to ask for it yourself. A huge basket filled with warm freshly baked bread, bread sticks and different types and flavors of crackers. A tennis ball sized scoop of butter, (or horseradish butter) for the bread or your baked potato. A huge steak cooked like you would cook it yourself, not rushed to get you in and out the door as fast as possible. A meal experience you'll remember longer than the ride to get there. If you have all of these, you might be eating at a Supper Club. Can you tell I loves me some Northwoods Supper Clubs? :encouragement:
