Was snowmobiling near Phelps last on Saturday and came across a wolf standing in trail, ans as I got closer he jumped off and stood about 15 ft off trail. I stopped and looked at him and my wife behind got mad at me. I was east of Phelps near gun range. Just thought let people know.

You sure? No offical wolf sightings in Phelps by DNR your should report it. Lots of residents work their dogs in that area so NOT good for them.

was up by phoenix a couple weeks ago, had a wolf cross the trail only a couple of hundred of feet in front of me, this is the second time i have seen a wolf in the U.P. this time was close enough to see just how large these animals are. dindt seem to be intimidated or scared by our presence either, just walked across the trail and off into the woods.

I have wolves on my property in Florence county. dozens of pictures from my trail cams. I'm pretty sure they travel quite a bit so I'm sure the DNR already knows they are in the area.

and they were there...... long before us...... or the dnr......

That is the problem shot /trapped out of WI many years ago now being brought back in the here and now with limited controls. Your dog in wrong place wrong time will not fare well.

I was in the Mosquito on Friday and saw a flyer for a Predator Hunt, the flyer had a picture of a Wolf so I assume people are getting sick of having to deal with them. I believe it was in the next month or two.

Wolves in northern Sconnie is nothing new. Could toss out many MANY sightings and stories from 10-15+ years ago...... As venturenorth said.

I'm pretty sure there's no wolves killed during the predator hunt just some really large Yotes...

seen lots of them...and that one you saw....was a lone male...very dangerous....he got kicked out of pack and is looking for his own to start and they are very hungry at this stage....he was eyeing you up...and that aint the only animal round those parts you thought were never there....go into the forest right near there.. NELMA/ALVIN.

PS...whats cool is see if his buddies are around....I told everyone turn off sleds and be quiet...I howled for like 10 mins....soon about 8 sets of eyes shown in the light surrounding us in a grove of pine trees.....it was very cool

I saw a wolf couple miles north of Lake Linden a week ago. This was about 10am. I saw him jump the trail about 60 yards in front on me. I stopped and he was about 20 yards off the trail. He was by himself. He stood there for about 15 seconds and ran away. First wolf I've seen while riding.

I live a couple of miles from LL, had many MANY times with wolves on my property in the last few months. The DNR was out here trapping them but they just release them right from the trap. I've had them watching me and my kids from the edge of the field...not fun....there have been a couple of incidents within say 5 miles as the crow flies of a guy being surrounded while cutting logs in the bush.....let's just say "he make it back to his truck". My neighbors family works in the woods and he has many stories about wolves and what to do and not to do....some are scary....

about 5 years ago or so, I had one hanging around my back field, and when I have the field cut and mulch hay made, the wolf went after the bailer on a tractor!!!

most areas are fine, but I've always got an eye open.....

From what I know usually a single/lone wolf is no danger, unless injured. All they want to do is get on with their run/hunt. Group/Pack, that's totally different. They depend on what the Lead/Alpha has in mind. Use good sense, and don't push them.

Not much you can do. They have been increasing in population especially since the hunting ban which is now lifted. Wolf subject is talked about on the radio here and there. They have been nabbing pets and livestock throughout Wi/Mi and people are glad they can legally take care of them now. .....Last fall my buddy I moved up from Illinois and I were heading to a job site in Presque Isle and a lone big black wolf ran across the road. He was like wow, have never seen a wolf before.
