OH there not tales....in 100,000 miles on a sled you see many many things and have many experiences....plus taking 15 guys on a tour all the time expounds on that too......and that one wasn't even epic.....hitting the railroad switch at 70 and then BARREL ROLLING A SLED like a jet plane....now that was something....only knocked my helmet off and cut my leg....LOL...I got many more.....LOL....and witnesses to back em all up too...LMAO

out west...retrieving a sled off a 1000 foot drop off above a river in 20 feet of snow....really really risky....took 3 of us to try to ride it out....hours packing down a runway for the sled in deep snow at aboot 10,000 feet too...dats another....LOL

Got them here too. A black one was running around our property. Several folks saw it crossing the road a few hundred feet from our house on several occasions this summer.

Live in the sticks, deal with what the sticks tosses at you. When I found out there was one roaming our property, I never left Gracie or the dogs unattended...even in our parking/play area.

To each there own, I guess. I just see it as part of living in the wilderness, or fringes of it anyway. I would rather let nature be nature than me try and be in charge of everything and have everything my way.

I guess to put it in a nutshell...I recognize that I live in an area where wolves live, so I do my best to respect that threat and not dominate it. I am WAY more worried about my dogs running out to the road and getting schmucked by a car than I am them getting attacked by a wolf.

-John

I couldn't agree more....I have had a dog killed by a car, but never have had a wolf attack here at my house. Even as a kid (I'm 43 now) we'd spend all day in the bush on bicycles, then dirt bikes, and then sleds, never saw a wolf, never had ticks, and rarely saw bears. we'd regularly see bears near thimbleberry patches when we were "in da bush" they'd leave and we'd shy away from them usually. It's just changed over the last 35+ years that I've spent in the Keweenaw woods....as you said, to each their own. of course I never really saw eagles back then either....now they are spotted regularly soaring above the fields out here. Anyway, I think I have cabin fever.........

By far more pets killed by coyotes than wolves. Coyotes will go where wolves will not.

The wolf is only in areas where they are managed coyotes are everywhere thruout the USA. Your average 60 lb dog can chase off any coyote small dogs maybe not but the wolf can take down any dog just not competitive.

I agree WD. But have seen a few pretty large dogs chewed up badly by a coyote. In witch neither won the fight, and coyote went on. What I meant to say was the fact coyotes are just naturally willing to take a lot more chances than the wolf will from what I have witnessed. In the wild, or were ever coyotes will push the chances.

Bald eagles have been known to take pets away to eat them. Can we shoot them if we happen to see one too? I think not.

MAN< I love how so many folks get worried about such LOW odds encounters and yet, most folks drive a car/truck almost daily, which, if you like FACTS< is the most dangerous thing you will do
as its, last I knew a FACT everyone will be in a vehicle crash at least ONCE in there life

the odds of a WOLF attack is pretty darn RARE
yes there predators, as are all dangerous animals that lurk the woods and forest where they live
BUT a FACT< we humans STINK to all wildlife that has a NOSE

I have spent time in remote drop camps in Alaska, where bigger things than wolfs roam, been in many places where MT lions roam, bears, Moose(a MUCH higher odds of being attached by one of these than a BEAR, WOLF or MT Lion too by the way)
and what I learn, is, to use common sense and go in with some honest INFO, and go prepared

if you worry about wolves, carry something you can use to SAVE your butt, if your worried, and KNOW how to use it
be it pepper spray or a side arm?

if you have pets and live or take them where they can be seen as part of a food chain or, a threat to a wolf/bear.lion, coyote??? or??
that again is YOUR responsibility of being a responsible pet owner, to see there safe

I'd be willing to bet more folks fall thru weak ice every yr, than get attacked by wolves ? and who is calling DCNR about weak ice to complain
LOGIC< is what keeps you safe on ICE< if its THIN< stay off?

if there are wolves THICK is spots, go into them area's prepared

OR stay out of them places there animals, trying to live, its US humans that enter THERE world, 99% of the time and NOT the other way!

I live rural, have bears in my yard all the time, Coyotes and most critters that live in my state to be honest
I accept the CHANCE of a BAD encounter to live here, and appreciate all the GREAT encounters I have had to date
IF something ever happened, I wouldn;'t BLAME the animal, I moved THERE, and I took the responsibility, of KNOWING where I was moving to!

I was on FSR Roads in December and there was a Herd of them on 1100 north of Kenton and the last time I was in that area they were gone. Maybe they moved to Phelps.

They move all the time and there is lots of them in MI and WI.

Cue, Frnash.
In the sepulchral voice of Lurch, of the "Addams Family" (TV Series, 1964-1966): "You rang?"

Were you referring to:
… a Herd of them (wolves) …
Okay, technically either a pack of wolves, or when in movement, a (rout or route) of wolves.

Other than that, I think folks will generally not be bothered by wolves, unless, you bring a picnic basket as (click →) Tracker claims to have done. (Really? a picnic basket?!) :grief:
