Don't know if this is right or wrong but I was told that an tracked ATV/UTV could drive on any trail that was on a road, or one designated as a shared ATV/Snowmobile trail, but not on designated snowmobile trails. Has to have an ORV sticker. Can not purchase a trail permit cause it does not fit the dedfination of a snowmobile.

When you purchase a "Snowmobile Trail Permit" all you are required to complete when you purchase the permit is address & drivers information. There is no restriction on what specifically the permit is applied to. An ATV can have a Trail Permit on it, however, it cannot be used on the snomo trail unless it meets the the above requirements. The ATV becomes "designed for travel primarily on snow or ice" when one puts on the trax. An automobile or truck would not be legal as these are subject to registration under the Michigan Motor Vehicle Code.-Mezz
