X-fire Diamond Drive shot...again...

I took my sled (09 X-Fire 6) in for a once over at the shop and got the dreaded call this afternoon. My Diamond Drive bearing(s) was bad again.

Last year, and only 200 miles ago, I had to have the innermost bearing replaced.

At least this time, Arctic Cat will cover all the parts and repairs...not sure why now, but i guess when they were assembled, the machine pushed too hard on something. any who, at 1400 miles, i am through 2 bearing replacements again.

The shop said they were replacing the whole assembly this time.

It is frustrating, but i'll stick with the Kitties for now. Just glad this is happening now and not mid season like last year.

call bdx and get the bearings from them cat knows their bearing sucks and keeps using prob because they know it is a revenue stream for service.
http://www.bd-xtreme.com/xtremebrearing5203.aspx
they sell the double row bearing .
BTW bdx is the inventor of the DD cat was leasing the patent.
it is a ez bearing to replace if you know any garage mechanics it will take them 30 min to replace.and now that it is open I would replace the 5 pinion planetary from BDX at the same time that will be the thing that when not if it blows will grenade the DD.
and Indy why would she want to buy a underpowered 1/2 ars engineered EFI system with jugs so bad they go out of round when they get hot and eventually bust the skirts off the pistons and grenade that underpowered pos POO.
trust me on the BDX parts that bearing is the topic of many forums and the BDX is a time tested reliable fix

How do you know if the Diamond Drive bearing is going bad? I have an 09 Xfire 800 with 2500 miles. Had the drive checked by the dealer last spring cause I heard all the horror stories. Checked out ok but if upgrading the bearings will save me winter down time I'd do it. Comments??

no way to tell really unless you pull the drive apart pull the bearing and slowly roll it to feel if it is good.I would buy one from bdx put it in my tool box and bring it with me on trips.for 15bucks you got it if you need it. at least if just that bearring goes it wont take out the rest of the drive

You can smell the oil heating up when they start to go down. If you can smell the oil, shut the thing down and replace.

Not a single problem with 06 700 with 8000 miles and 09 800 with 4000 miles. Regular fluid changes is all. Am I just lucky or is this really a rare problem?

05-06 DD is near bulletproof, that's actually a proper built DD from BDX in those years. There are many 09-11 that have issues, and there are many that dont. I don't think it is just a bearing issue, but a good quality double row angular contact bearing will help. If you change the bearing on the 09, I prefer a good quality bearing like an SKF, the bearing you would need is a 5203-2RS. You can get these online or I use Motion Industries.

Hope I,m not jinxing myself but 06 X-Fire 6500 miles not a problem. changed the oil every year and replaced one bearing that didn,t feel right.

Inspection

If I took mine apart preventatively to inspect and change oil, is there any gaskets, seals etc that I would need to get in order to reassemble?

I'm dealing with an 09 xf8oo std
