Yamaha owners- is tunnel ice build up fact or fiction?

FACT - get used to it if you buy a Yamaha. The colder it is, the worse the icing gets. And when you come out in the morning, you will have the clunking and crashing of all the chunks running thru the tunnel and over the track as they loosen up.
Or - you can spend an hour a day chiseling chunks of ice out of the tunnel by hand. Always fun in 5 degree weather. Ahhh, the joys of Yam ownership.

Same thing happens to my buddy's 05 900 RMK, the joys of owning a Polaris.

My 06 Fusion and my bud's 07 IQ both do this - bad if there's a lot of powder. Seems like the newer IQ's didn't do it since they re-ran some of the cooling. I'm going to try to spray something on it this year to see if it helps.

I never had that on my 755 IQ??? But was told It would be an issue. had tons of ice build up by front radiator thou. Did the front rad. removal kit from SLP and fixed that.

Hope thats not an issue on the Yamicat??? I spent some time on one yesterday. Found out that I can get one in red and black with a 141 track. That would make a great UP trail sled. (Just got to get over the cat part of the whole thing.) Pricing was less then an 800 Assault.

what Yammi machine were you experiencing all this icing up with?

Primarily an '09 Apex LTX GT - and everyone at TY is aware of the problem and deals with it by chipping ice out of the tunnel before running the next day, or melting overnight in the garage.
I chipped ice out of the tunnel one time and after that, I said enough.
What can happen on the Apex with the electronic Ohlins, is the wire that runs down to the shock can get sheared off by excessive ice if you don't have the wire properly secured with cable ties. Alot of cable ties.

My '09 Vector GT had the problem too, but I can't seem to recall I had the problem on the 2011 Vector last year.
Not sure if studding might cause some issue, as both '09s were studded where as the 2011 is not.

Interesting...I've had 6 -8 Polaris's, the last one an '07 IQ, and never, ever had a problem with icing.
Until I got a Yamaha - icing you say? Huh - what's that? You have got to be kidding...hand warmers that don't work at low RPM - you got to be kidding.

No one has said what the effect is with ice build up? Like I said I run my Attak on stand in reverse beggining & end of every ride. Maybe I'm different as start & finish on lake powder then ditches, FR, fields then groomed trails. Just not a problem mono skid works great.
