… We are in a remote location so it's a bit unique here. …
Well yes, it's a "remote location", but just happens to be located in the snow/snowmobile capital of the Midwest; I'm sure that's the big factor!

A great story, "fer sure". Loved it!

P.S. kip, you write well!
Seriously, it's a real pleasure to read such a post from end to end without mentally tripping over something.

Compare the experience to riding a perfectly groomed snowmobile trail vs. banging over moguls and stutter bumps on trail #3 (Bill Nicholls) on a late weekday afternoon, following 900+ earlier sleds! A rare but beautiful experience!

(One might think that as busy as you are with running your business you might be inclined to just knock off a hasty note with little time for proofreading and editing.)

P.S.: "nowadays": Yes, exactly, that's correct, not "now days"! Hurrah!

In fact this entire thread today seems to be setting a new trend in literacy, fluency and writing skill.
Y'all made my day! So much so that I'll pass on discussing the likes of"
… Hows [sic] (vs. How's) … surly [sic] (vs. surely) … [sic] … forwaard [sic] (vs. forward) … loose [sic] (vs. lose) …
If this keeps up, I'm gonna have to find a new career! (Maybe hiring on with 60 Minutes as a latter day replacement for Andy Rooney [RIP], their former resident curmudgeon?) :devilish:

Doesn’t Yamaha put unrealistic requirements on dealers to carry certain amounts of inventory on hand? If so, wouldn’t backing off these requirements help some of the smaller dealers?

This might be the case for other manufacturers too??

Yeah, don't get me started on their motorcycle line. Why build an FZ-1, FZ-9, FZ-8 and a FZ-6 over the past number of years?
I remember buying a new 11 FZ-1 in 2013 for $7,800 and like a year later they came out with the FZ-9 which was inferior to the "1" (it looked tricker to the millennials though) and they wanted almost full MSRP about 3 grand more. The "8" was a flop to me as the "1" was cheaper. Anyway, marketing experts at work.

I'm sorry old abe I wish I knew more. Indy 500? I don't follow. Still remember helping you out with a Phazer 500 one night for free that you were more than happy to ride. Don't understand the hate for Yamaha but it's your choice so who am I to say. If you mean old technology by Yamaha I certainly would disagree.
Frnash glad I could make you smile:) Thanks Timo, it's been a ride and I look forward to more memories with all of the sledders out there.

I've never owned a Yamaha so I don't have a dog in this fight. But one point that hasn't come up is that Yamaha is a huge company with a ton of diversification. Everything from bikes to snowmobiles to music instruments, to watercraft, the list goes on and on. Their snowmobiles are a piece of the pie, not the whole pie. If they choose to pay more attention to other products, there's probably a reason for it. And most likely it's money. I hope they continue to keep snowmobiles in their offerings. They were the first to offer oil injection and the first to shoe-horn a 4 stroke into a snowmobile. We all agree that it's best to have 4 brands to choose from rather than 3, let's hope that it happens.

Why does it seem that Yamaha gets all these people's undies in a wad?...especially those that don't ride em?....I don't get it. No other brand gets people riled up more. Ride what you like.....the weight thing makes me laugh...it's an old stupid argument....any of the eps equipped sleds feel so much lighter, and yamaha's engines are bullet proof...they don't eat belts either..yeah I wish they had a better ride, and had upgraded their front end (on the 100 percent yami's the vector and apex) I personally wish Yamaha would put EPS, and YCCT on the trail and touring sleds (including the Viper, and Sidewinder), it's neat technology...Let cat use it too.. I also feel the Viper's lack top end...Give the viper a bit more top end, and IMO you have the perfect trail sled....I will ride yamaha's as long as I can, and if they go away...well then I will buy a cat (with a Yamaha motor)....Our sport is dying...better enjoy it while you can.

I believe more in my dealer and riding buddies then I do in a brand. Yet, we are all brand loyal to some extent. Here's a thanks to some of the great dealers we have that give up their riding time for us. Kip, I've never met you, but have been in your shop once or twice. It's people like you that make the sport what it is.

I don't know about that. Seems anyone brings up a brand they don't like the vultures can come out.
Mention how smooth the rmtion on a Doo is and watch Snobuilder go into def con 5 meltdown.

Im very dealer loyal. It's Between Kip and Chad! Lol. I just bought an 18 rmk from Kip last saturday, so did my buddy. Customer service is the most important thing to me. Kip and Chad are the best.

For what it's worth here's my two cents. Yamaha will not get out of the business. It costs more money to get out than to stay in and that's a fact. Yes, I believe production will be cut by quite a bit and I agree with it. Sooner or later something has to give with the industry. You cannot keep pushing more and more numbers with 0% interest and huge discounts. It is costing the big 4 millions of profit. I'd rather see less production and I don't think Yamaha will be the only one to do it.

Kip thank you for all the insight and your thoughts on this (and other topics on this site).......you know more then I ever will on the entire motor sports industry but how or why would it cost more to get out of the business then stay in?

Also I completely agree that a good dealer is more important then the brand, and that goes for everything (cars, sleds, boats).

Scott, I'll explain that to you when I have the facts as far as cost of getting out of the business. I'll be in touch soon on that topic. Thank you and you're welcome. I try to give all the customers insights so they know how the business operates. Really nothing to hide in the motorsports industry.

We all know the snobuilder to be an interesting fella, but what year and model do you currently own and ride?

"800 HO" should narrow it down for you fuji.
You mentioned 19 mpg with your 600 etec in another post. That's impressive if you are riding it to its limits.
