Guess I'll get things started. A lot of "experts" are predicting a deep run in the playoffs for this year's Packers. But that's a long way off and I for one will enjoy the journey between the first game to the last. I'm hoping we can use this thread for thoughts along the way for this season. There's also a lot of Bear's fans lurking and that's OK as long as we keep it civil. And if we let the Bears in then we have to include the Vikings and Lions too. So, be nice and by the end of the season we can hope to be riding in the deep snows of the NFC North. With that said, I found the following item of interest on Channel 2's web site, a neat story indeed.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – An historic piece of the Frozen Tundra is on display at the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame at Lambeau Field.

The team has received a donation of a section of the goal post from the 1967 NFL Championship between the Packers and the Dallas Cowboys. Of course, that’s much better known as the Ice Bowl.

Here’s the story of the goal post, via the Green Bay Packers:

“The five foot-long section of goal post was donated by Stew Mills and the Mills family, who had received it from the James and Barbara Smith family. Both families attended the Ice Bowl, and following the victory that was sealed with Bart Starr’s quarterback sneak, the Smiths found themselves on the playing field taking down the goal post with a group of several strangers, all of whom wished to lay claim to the post’s lower section.

The group loaded their section into the Smith family van and drove to a construction company’s shop operated by one of the members of the group. They cut the goal post section into pieces, dividing the pieces amongst the group.

The Smith family’s section remained in their home in the Town of Center until 1990, when James Smith gave it as a gift to the Stew and Henry Mills families. The goal post was displayed at the Mills Fleet Farm Appleton office in the years since then, and the Mills family is proud to donate the unique artifact to the Packers Hall of Fame for fans to enjoy.”

Fans can view the goal post at the Ice Bowl Theater on the second floor of the Hall of Fame.

Yeah I'm ready for some football!! And the weather that comes with it! Lol
Packers look good on paper and when healthy. All it takes few key injuries to derail a season.
It will for sure be interesting to see how the release of Sitton plays out. Cutting a pro bowl player that protects your franchise (week before go time no less) takes guts or down right insane. Well see.

The odds of Rodgers getting hurt went up about 150 percent by getting rid of Sitton. Taylor is simply not that good. Terrible move no matter the reason(s).

Ya, that Sitton business was a head scratcher. From what I've read it sounds like a combination of things wore out his welcome in Green Bay. A little bit of an attitude-he traded barbs with the coach last season, bad back, money, age, etc. Taylor is actually bigger and a better athlete though far less experience which can get somebody killed back there, namely Rodgers. Guess we'll find out soon enough but you have to believe that the guys making these decisions know more about this than we do.

x2! Wow so much for "were not gonna talk contracts with anyone till after season."
Ha,ha I can't wait til we play the Bears, you know Sitton not gonna keep his mouth shut forever. Lol what I liked about him he wasn't about all that political correctness bs.

OK, that release of Sitton makes more sense now. Here's my take...they told Sitton there would be no new contracts during the season, they obviously were working with Bakhtiari at that time since you don't put something like this together overnight. Once they went public, then Sitton would look and feel pretty bad. On top of that they play side by side so any hard feelings and you have one toxic locker room from that moment on.

Either that scenario or once Sitton was released they felt it necessary to shore up the line and keep all talent on the line as they could.

They are professionals making millions. Feelings get hurt all the time in sports, and real life.

Sitton was already toxic in Thompsons eyes, and they had no interest in resigning him. Ol Ted isn't going to let him go for free unless he was a cancer in the locker room.

Don't get me wrong, Sitton gone is a hard pill to take for us fans.

Though Im not completely sold on Bakhtari being worth that much money. But I guess thats why we are fans, and they are the management.

After tonight the pack should not be considered in super bowl conversations. They are not what they were 2 years ago. They were lucky to beat Jacksonville and if not for penalties and lucky bounces on turnovers they would have lost to the vikes by 20 points.

Vikes are improved. Rodgers seemed out of it.
But we are only 2 games in....I doubt a huge trophy case was included in your new stadiums budget.

no huge trophy case. I was sure the pack was going to win by at least 20 frankly it was kind of sad

Thought it would be a good game, but figured the packers would win. Their offense is stagnet. Only week 2 tho.

Vikings have a real roster;), if Bradford improves they got a shot.

Ya how many nfl teams get to recover 3 of their own fumbles? I to thought the pack had this one in the bag. Not so much. Leading offensive player for the pack was wearing a black and white striped shirt....

Vikings deal for Bradford is looking good for now. Was that a record soooo many loose balls recovered by O. Vikings D is a good bunch & was able to control Lacy even late in the game when he shines as a RB. What a load to stop!

Bradford can play like he did last night every game, I don't see much improvement needed!! I know he won't play like that every game, but he looked very good.
