Your trip is how many days?

Normally 2 days on weekends maybe an occasional 3 day weekend (wife is a teacher can’t really get to many days off). 5 to 6 hour ride to get up north but we have a place so don’t have to trailer sleds, do this 6 to 10 times a year. Some day will be able to ride week days till then do the best we can. One time me and my son drove 310 miles to cabin Friday night slept got up Saturday morning loaded sleds in trailer drove 50 more miles north unloaded and rode 210 miles in 50 degrees reloaded sleds drove back to cabin slept for the night and drove 310 miles back home on Sunday. As everyone on here has always said it’s all about the smiles So I don’t worry about the drive or not being able to ride midweek.

I only do 1 trip per year to the UP but several day and weekend trips to the MN Northshore or wherever there is snow in MN.
For the UP trip we leave at 5 am or so on Wednesday morning, stop for breakfast either Hayward or Bergland. We get to our destination of either Greenland, Mass City or Twin Lakes around noon (7 hour drive). Check in, unpack, unload and go for a ride. We ride Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Mostly playing. Not a lot of miles the last few years.
Riding in MN we do a lot of day trips to the NS or wherever there is snow. Leave at 5:00 am, ride 150-250 miles and drive home. Take about 2 weekend trips in MN and have 3 weekend trips for our vintage sleds and 6 weekends watching our son race snocross. Busy weekends in the winter.

Typically leave on Wednesday evening (five hours), stay at some casino in UP. Get up Thursday and saddlebag to some destination, Friday ride back, more blackjack, and get out of town early Saturday and enjoy the weekend back home. Rinse and repeat!

Leave Monday at 5 am get to Greenland at 1 pm, no trailer any more sleds stored at Pat's MS. Ride 200-300 miles a day and leave Saturday at 7 am home by 3 pm to take wife for dinner date. 435 miles one way and try to get in 6 to 7 weeks each winter.

At one point I had thought about storing my sled up north, but i think i enjoying starting too much in the garage and huffing the fumes:)

6 years ago I met a couple from Germany. At the time, they would come to the UP every other year to snowmobile for 1 week. So, add 2 days front and back for traveling. After I met them that that year, they have been coming every year and have been making Mark at Timberline very happy renting 2 sleds for a week. This year, they decided to buy sleds (2019 Ski-Doo Renegade 900 Turbos) from Mark and they will store them with Mark when they are not riding. I just heard they are now coming for 2 weeks this year (well why not, you have brand new sleds). I offered to break in his wife's sled when i come up next week but they weren't going for it.
So, 2 weeks which is no PolarisDan effort, but they fly from Germany so that has to count?

They wouldn't happen to be the long lost relatives of Clark W. Griswold? Not to be confused with the C.W.G. from the JohnDee forum of last season.

Usually a week right after Christmas, then boat shows for the month of January, and then every other weekend until the snow melts.

St. Germain is normal destination, but will trailer north from there as needed.

Double hop flight from the west coast into GRB, then a 2.5 hour drive to mom and dad's cottage in da yoop, where sleds are kept. Once a year. Longest trip was 12 glorious days, shortest was 2 days (last year, and got rained on).

When you have a drive over 5 hours, pulling a trailer is the worst. My crew leaves the sleds up a north and it’s the best decision we have ever made. I don’t even like it if we have to throw a sled in the back of a truck let alone if someone new wants to join and make us pull a trailer.

I thought I would never say it, but even living in Green Bay, WI I may be in that same boat now. The trail closest to my home never opened last year.
After up north storage comes..renting..then comes death.

Yeah, this year brought the sleds up to a storage place in Tomahawk. Adding up the pay tolls and the fuel mileage it won't exactly pay for itself, but it's just nice not to trailer something 600 miles round trip every time. Now, if the snow would just cooperate...

Since were being honest if I had to ride Friday night, Saturday and Saturday night, I'd quit the sport. Those are the absolute worst times to ride...way to much traffic, way to many drunk riders, the worst trail conditions for the week...ect. But to each there own.
Gotta be honest, if I had to drive 10* hrs each way and only got out 1-2 times each yr I’d quit the sport. I drive 90 minutes, leave Friday after work, ride Friday night, Saturday and Sunday, then drive 90 minutes home Sunday night. And I do it 8-10 times yr.

through out all the years, I've tried all combinations. Leave this day, leave that day.
Usually ride very little Saturday or find remote trails. years ago we would leave thurs after work
everything was all packed & loaded to go, 325 miles to Rhinelander, stay at clear lake motel
3 nites & come back sunday, wasn't a bad ride at all & usually spent under $300 total
Then I discovered the UP & haven't done much Wisconsin riding at all. The UP is more
of a committed trip, longer distance, more expense so more days added just makes
sense to me. Usually stay 4-5 nites & get 600-800 miles, depending on weather.
I would say early Monday morning is usually the best for me. If you get up at the
crack of dawn & are one of the 1st ones out on the trail, it really makes the trip
really worthwhile. Gotta try it fellow snowmobilers

Would you always head north when sledding out of Rhinelander?
Never been on any trails south of there. The furthest south I go now is Star Lake or Conover. I'll usually like to stay at Gateway Inn in Land O' and rent sleds across the street. I've found the people and food around there to be worthwhile, plus lots of options as far as trails.

What area do you ride out of now?
