New Prague/LeSueur County Trails

I am very P.O.'d that our groomer hasn't moved a single inch after one of the best snows in 25 yrs. This looks to be a continuation of the poorly maintained trails we've had for the past couple years! What do we pay our trail fee's for? Before I whine too much are others clubs out there in southern MN grooming yet?

Here's a pic of the groomer just sitting there. Frustrating! Grrr!

We were out grooming on saturday, had to stop at about 1:30, visibility was so poor we couldn't see where we were going-I was riding along. He'll be out tomorrow (monday) with a snowfall this big, its best to let sleds tamp down the snow first. Do you belong to a club? Read the attached article-if it attaches right.

I rode 50 miles today, in 3 different counties, no groomers were out in any of the 3. Trails were fair, plowed fields that weren't protected from wind were tough. I consider local (south metro MN) December riding to be a bonus, not to expect it. Fyi I believe that much or most of Wisconsin's trail network is not open until Dec. 15---Not bashing Wisconsin-I love riding there too. just sayin...

I once was a member of the np snowdrfters but learned really fast that many in the organization only liked to talk about riding rather than riding. I now belong to the Superior Snowmobile Club in the U.P.

With that said, do the NP sno drifters need volunteer drivers? I'd be willing to learn and donate tons of time grooming.

Faribo Sno-Go club has been out several times already this season.

t660redrocket befor you start too complain on this site you should contact your club and find out whats wrong.
Did you volunteer too do the maintanice on the groomer, are you part of the groomer committee,do you run the groomer?
You see the point I'm makeing, don't come on this site and start too complane if you don't
do anything.
As far as I am concerned they have one of the best marked and groomed trails around here, behind us of course.
I am a club member for the amboy snowbrids and we get it from the dnr because people
think the trail should be as soomth as a highway, it can't, you can groom 24-7, but when the wind comes up you start all over.
As stated in the post the weather has been trouble.
Last time I check all the above things, grooming, maintaince, signing,WORK, is done by
VOLUNTEERS.

Think more Snow!!!

I'm speaking of northern LeSueur County. To answer your questions No, No and No. Nor do I do that for any other club but it seems the work is always complete in those area's. In the past 2 years our groomer ran less than a single handful of times. While southern LeSueur Cty, Rice and Scott were out all the time.

I'm not a mechanic so I'm out for working on it other than daily maintenance but like I stated in an earlier post I'd be willing to drive the groomer many many hours.

The other thing I'll state, is that when volunteers step forward maybe they should be taken up on their willingness to help out.

My complaints here aren't to disrespect anyone or hurt feelings, they will hopefully be taken constructively and used to the benefit of those paying the ever growing fees placed upon us riders in the state of Minnesota.

With the way the snow drifted in the fields, I was actually HAPPY they had not groomed yet. It was A LOT more fun pounding through the drifts and not racing down a paved highway. I only put on about 35 miles yesterday, and I didn't get 5 miles from the house. I had quite the workout (Got stuck twice)and wouldn't have wanted it any differently with the fresh snow and sunny sky!

The season is young, give those VOLUNTEER's a break already.

I couldn't agree more. It's more fun to blow through drifts in the ditch or a field!

You must have been member of the NP Snowdrifters for such a short period of time I never had the opportunity to meet you.

"Hi!" My name is Todd Ulschmid. My wife, Barb and I have been members of the NP SnowDrifters for about 20 years, now. Believe me, there are plenty of members that "ride" in our club. We'd be more than happy to have you apart of the club, again. As with most snowmobile clubs, and having a groomer to operate, it takes volunteers. A lot of volunteers. Well, being we were blasted with one of the biggest snow storms in recent history, people no doubt had to take care of the home front before taking care of the snowmobile trails. I agree with Brian and allowing the sledders to get out and pack the trail a little. Build the snow base before grooming. That's one thing the clubs up in northern MN, WI, and yes, even MI have gotten away from. They hardly have any "base" established before they are out there "scrapping" all the snow off the trails. Sure, 3-4' ft of snow out in the woods but maybe 3"- 4" inches on the trails. They groom too much, sometimes. One warm day and you're riding on dirt. Be happy we have all this snow this early in the season! The trail by my house only had one set of tracks on it. Mine. Nice and deep, too! So, please be patient with the trails, I'm sure it'll be worth the wait. Plus, with today's sleds, the technology in the suspensions and deeper lugs, use them like they are intended. If, you ride a 72' Puma, or ride like my 76 year mom, by all means wait for the groomer to get out. LOL! : ) If, you rode in our area last season, you would have found some of the nicest groomed trails in the region. Le Seur County trail association, NP Snowdrifters, the Prior Lake club and the surrounding clubs did a fantastic job.

The next NP Snowdrifter's meeting is Thursday, Jan. 6 2011
@ the Union Hill Bar. Hope to see you there and bring a friend. We're always looking for new members and we always like to see past members, rejoin!

Have a great riding season. : )

When the trails are groomed they are great and beleive me I deeply appreciate our area volunteers for their hard work. Again I'm not out to direspect anyone I'm just hoping for some nice trails this season. I just get a little frustrated when northern LeSueur County is consistantly the last grooomed or not groomed. I'm done whining now. Thanks for putting up with me!

Maybe I'll come out to Union Hill for the meeting and consider joining. Last time I was a member it consisted of tapping the keg and talking about riding. Reminded me of a college kegger. Please tell me there's more to it these days. LOL!

Well, I just did a lunch time ride and passed the groomer along the way. I felt so guilty seeing out there I couldn't stand to allow myself riding on the fresh ribbon. I stayed off for the most part as punishment for whining. This was taken between New Prague and Vesili.

OK ,what did YOU do to make it "our" trail? Another "welfare" rider. i.e. don't do any work for it, 'cause somebody will provide it for me! off my soapbox now.

you have to be willing to commit to more than just a few hrs hear and their to drive groumer. there is insurance to deal with training ect you cant just let some guy say yeah I will do it some times. the insurance liability alone would cripple most club budgets if they had to insure 20 guys to run it now and then.and it is not ez to find 2 or 3 guys to commit to 8 to 10 hr a week each to volunteer for a full season so be glad it gets done at all on a local level.not to mention would you let your neighbor take out your 135k lawn mower because he thought the grass was to long at the park
