My experience on the new signs

We rode a trail today that I'm pretty familiar with. Now that the new signage has went into effect I can see how idiotic it really is.

They removed the 90 degree turn signs on the 90 degree turns! Somehow there was a chevron sign that was there going one way but not the other.

I hate to say it but it's only a matter of time. Supposedly they weren't going to remove those signs. Well if that's the case they really messed up.

Has anyone saw this idiocy on the trail so far?

Just got back from three days of riding trails and not once did anyone in our group go careening off the trail . Don't see what all the big fuss is about. The only signs needed are at trail intersections so the unfamiliar know which way to go.

Trails are not racetracks. Keep both hands on the bars and don't drink and ride.

Where was that? I went north up to 8 and back yesterday but forgot to look....was watching trail and not signs......just curious

a big fat YUP. Dec 1st 3 am heading out of Bruce we were the first tracks all the way up to Mass city. Made SEVERAL (probably 10) wrong turns because of no corner signs. Going thru a woods there's private trails and old logging roads that cross the trail and without the corner signs and untracked snow it gets VERY confusing. Other than that I had no problems with it being "unsafe".

7 south from 8 to 440. They're in sections I usually bypass and take forest roads. Thought I would see if they were smooth and they were. Noticed at least 2 sharp 90s with no indication they were coming up.

You say this now. We don't drink and ride. That's even dumber than removing 90 degree curve signs. By your logic we don't need them on roads either.

Nope. Well, have not rode them yet, but was involved with removing and resigning in the fall.

You say this now. We don't drink and ride. That's even dumber than removing 90 degree curve signs. By your logic we don't need them on roads either.

As far as I know our club maintained the 90 degree curves. I was helping to remove signs myself and remember asking if particular turns were a 90 or not. If we thought they were 90's than they stayed.

Just got back from a trip and didn't notice that big of a difference. Only a few spots were bad, like going up a steep hill with a sharp turn at the top. Besides that they still seemed to be marked fairly well.

I just got back from 2.5 days of riding around the Gwinn, MI area. I definitely noticed the lack of signs. Did we go careening off the trail? No. But it was extremely annoying to be cruising along the trail at a comfortable speed (to me- some of you may think I'm a ricky racer, some of you may think I'm slow) and then all of a sudden the trail takes a 90 degree turn into the woods (even though there was forest road, power line, off-trail tracks, etc that went straight ahead). We don't need a warning for every little curve. I'll admit that I think WI has a little too much signage (do we really need a 'winding trail' sign every mile or so?). But it definitely seemed less safe w/out the warnings. Just my opinion anyway- and we all know what they say about opinions!

Sounds like they need more trail markers at least.

I thought so. Someone really dropped the ball on this deal. 2 90 degree turns with no forest road going straight and a couple where there is a forest road going straight in case someone misses.

There is no club in Alger county. I believe I'm going to have to contact msa or the Alger county visitors bureau. They still haven't groomed and plenty of snow.

being that its the start of our season I think that us riders should somehow mark these bad corners as we come to them....any ideas of how to "mark" them? might save a life

Was wondering that myself. Unless one has a GPS and can mark the spot as a waypoint, how could you report the spot with any degree of accuracy to the responsible club/agency/organization? And would they take it seriously, or just as someone "whining"?
