New Balaclava

Need some new balaclavas. Figured I'd just order them from home before we head out on the next trip. I've always liked the thin nylon ones and normally I bring with about 4-6 for two of us cause you can't use the same one every day you ride. With all the talk about Kilm gear on the site I looked into those but the cheap ones are $29. Don't really know if $120 for 4 of them is what I had in mind to spend. Any thought on why they're worth that, or other suggestions.

Why need more than 1?

After a ride throw it in the dryer for 10 min, good as new. Then wash it when your done.

I have used Turtle Fur for the past 10 years very thin fleece The first one on the ebay search $14.99 not a bad price if they get funky on a trip I hand wash them and they are dry in the morning. I also saw they have nylon ones like you use (Turtle Fur Ninja Balaclava Black) I have never used that style however I am sure it's a good product and at least worth giving it a shot.

I'm with Gary on this one. If you are on a multi-day trip, it is good to have several. The one thing about the Klim I have is it does not seem to stretch as much as the regular nylon ones. The size of it seems to be a bit small. I think that is because of the windblocker material. I am more a fan of carrying more of the cheaper ones and changing them as needed.

4 for a trip heck I bring 3 for a day.
if I have to breath through one I will change it out every time I take one off.
I usually wear them just under my lip.
if cold I have some 2 hole ones if not with me I will try to cut a mouth hole.
if to clod for that then and only then will I breath through one but that is just nasty after they get wet full of boogers and wet spit I would rather get frost bite than slime one back over my head

I like the under armour ones, but, if you are not one to wear baselayers with a turtle neck or like your jacket not zipped up, the under armour ones don't have much neck protection. Klim was too small for me.

I like the thin inexpensive nylon ones. The others make me itch. I usually only carry two or three with me on a trip. I wash them by hand in a sink with hot water and soap when necessary. Being nylon, they dry fast.

We always have a small container of wool light. We wash our head gear and its great to have around when you run low on socks or drawers. They are always dry by morning.

I love using mine when the snotsicle is about an inch long! I have a regular Klim one, and Klim's newest one with the built in breath deflector.

Same here. Heck I get the $6 ones at the gas stations and go. I lose them before I wear them out.

Thanks everyone, could have quoted a lot of you as I either agreed with many posts, or laughed out loud at some of them. The thoughts of ezra pulling a slimy one full of buggers and wet spit over his head, or skylar with a inch long snotsicle hanging off of his are images I don't want to keep in my mind for long!

Guess I'm back to my original thoughts, I'll just do as I've been doing, pick up a few $10 ones and carry some spares. We've washed them out in motels too, I can't see how anyone can go on a trip with only one. That thing has to reak when you get back home!

I have 1 thin 'clava, 1 that is thin on the head and super thick around the neck and a 'neck only' one that I made cuz some are too thick. After reading this whole post, I mentioned to Russ that I couldn't actually remember the last time I wore any of them. I think it has to to a lot with the fact that my helmet combined with the collar of my coat and my base layer doesn't let much air in to make me cold unless it's super freezing below 0* outside!

I DO have to agree with you that if I wore one on a regular basis, I'd certainly want more than one cuz they get pretty stinky!
