twin lakes/south range accident?

the way this reads is, if a good hearted sledder stops to pick up a couple beer cans on the trail in a clean up effort, and then gets hit by a totally sober sledder, it would be righteous to report that "alcohol was believed to be a contributing factor"???

Not on the trail but on a construction project, someone I know nearly lost his job for picking up beer can trash. John found a bunch of empty beer cans scattered on bridge construction grade one Monday AM. Tossed them in the back of the company truck (10 cent return) because he said his kids collected cans for spending money. Project engineer stopped by that day and as he was talking to inspector he questioned why he had a bunch of beer cans in the box of his company truck. He told him he picked them on the project etc. Boss told him to get rid of them right now. He got a letter of reprimand and a unpaid suspension because beer cans in the company truck gave a bad public impression. Some in the company wanted to fire him but they ended taking his word he was not drinking in a company vehicle. After that he said a policy came down, absolutely no empty or full alcoholic beverages or containers can be transportated in a company vehicle, punishment is termination.

a few years ago i was a victim of the "Alcohol is a factor" media drama. I was also a "missing suspect"

-We were out on a lake enjoying some radar runs, after a few beers i loaded my sled on my trailer (that my gf brought out there for me so i didnt ride home under the influance)
My 100% sober friend unloaded my sled to ride it around. after the races I used some bad judgement and got on the back of my sled (3 people...2 on the seat and me on the tunnel) to ride "wheelies" down the radar run track. well as mentioned i had a few beers in me (but wasnt driving) and long story short we did a few successful runs and one run he lost it about half track and the sled hit the haybales. I did the tuck and roll (no helmet- i know im an idiot and i learned that lesson the hard way) but i was ok and unharmed. The driver and a girl hit the ground harder but were OK..just dazed..someone calls 911. So Im worried about my friends and making sure they are ok..the EMTs arrive and throw them on the stretchers and load em up in the ambulance and them and the cops leave. Never ask if anyone else was involved or anything about whos sled, etc. I was kinda left standing there confused. So we drug the sled into my enclosed and i went into the bar to warm up and talk to everyone in the group and tell them that the 2 are gonna be fine. About an hour later i get a call from a local cop/friend that says they are looking for me and i need to turn myself in, i said im still at the race site, in the bar warming up. The cop looking for me came and he was PISSED. He asked "why didnt you come forward" I told him "im sorry i never heard anyone ask and im sorry i was more worried that my friends were ok, I was right next to you when they were getting loaded up" He didnt like that. He made my blow and becasue i had alcohol in my system it became an alcohol related accident. (even though i was a passenger) The news people showed up of course during all this and someone on the lake told them that "the 3rd person involved took off on the sled and the cops are looking for them" funniest part was my sled and trailer were in the background.

sorry for the novel but lets hope these other people are ok and dont ASSUME anything until full details are released and you find them out first hand. its easy to jump to conclusion like the media and point blame. I can see how it happens up there...the trails are crazy busy and everyone drives like its their race track

Hmmmm......I must be an old fuddy duddy, but I fail to see the humor in somebody getting hurt (which was the original subject of the thread), or in the possible perils of drinking and riding (which has morphed into a secondary subject of the thread).

I think we all need snow to ride on so we can stop talking about this. My heart goes out to anyone involved in an accident. Ride safe and drink after you ride. Nuff said.

have a sense of humor russholio...we need a little more humor on this board once in a while.

you know what they say about women......
you can drink them pretty, but you can't drink them skinny. :D

They didn't. I stand corrected. What I should have said is, I fail to see why either subject needs to have humor injected into it.

I think I have a pretty good sense of humor....and I've been known to apply it (or at least try) plenty of times on this board. But I'm sorry, I stand by my opinion that these two subjects don't need it. There are plenty of other subjects where it's more appropriate.

If I have heard that, it's been a long time. Thanks for the reminder! :D
