Disrespect To Our Landowners

Such a shame that we have to keep on this subject-but, where is common courtesy and respect to our land owners. Our club is in jeopardy of losing part of our trail with NO reroute available due to OFF-TRAIL riding & Trespassing. This area in discussion is between Mass City and Rockland on Trail #3. When landowners give us permission to go thru their yard-we mark with MANY signs to STAY ON TRAIL. This means what it says. It does not give permission to go up their driveway, into other parts of their property or get off sled to relieve their bladder. PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO OTHERS.

Seems this is an ongoing problem that will never go away. Wasn't it last year people kept riding on the clearly marked private yard across from the mini mart?

Across from the Mini-Mart is DNR State Property. I don't remember that specifically but you are very correct-we go thru this every year. Really bad when there is not a reroute available-just don't understand why so often anymore people don't care about people or have respect for what belongs to others.

This sounds like our area a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully people will get the message soon, and before you lose the permission to cross the property. I will throw this out there, do people think the idea of off trail riding that is done in the u.p. has the trickle down affect that riding off trail everywhere is the norm? Just a thought.:confused:

I think it has the most to do with the introduction of the crossover sled.
not even 6yrs ago u could find fresh everyplace now u pull up to the pump the mountain sleds outnumber the 121s 7to1
it is crazy now u find guys blatantly following u out to your spots.
it was kind of surprising to run in to some one in the woods as soon as 5yrs ago now u feel lucky if u can go 4hrs with out running across a crew

It sure seems like it. We had the same issues Christmas to Newyears week. Saw alot of Mtn. sleds w/paddles around here from every state imagineable. The motels in the Dells were full and we groomed non-stop trying to keep up, yet they still cut corners and blast across fields. Even had some morons jumping one of our landowners septic mound at 2:00am! I'm glad our snow is gone so we can suvey the damage and repair our relationships w/our landowners (if that is possible).

Very sorry to see/hear this problem again. I hope you can smooth things out with the landowner. I wish there was more respect for others in our world today!!

Some people just don't care what goes into getting permission/privilege to use peoples land for trails and then what happens when the privilege is taken away.

The snowmobile trails just weren't part of the land a lot of HARD work by very few went into making the trails for thousands and thousands of others to use. Such a shame....

Comes back to that idiotic mentality " I'm not from around here, and I might not ever be back, so what do I care?" It's too bad it can't snow everywhere at once so people can stay in their own area to ride. When some people travel to ride, they think they're "entitled" to ride when and where they want to. I just don't get it, if ya can't stay on the trails, stay in your recliner!!!

Yep, I lost all my private property permissions in and out of my cabin because of sledders following my tracks in and out, "assuming" its alright because there's tracks. My neighbors said they couldnt care a less about me but its the 100 guys behind me at all hours. I sold my mountain sled and went back to racing. Off trail riding is out of control, a complete lack of common sense and courtesy. I'm a snowmobiler, a landower and pay property taxes in the UP and I look forward to when they decide to shut it down and start writing tresspass tickets.

Wondering if you put up one of those hunting cameras, if it could get their reg # or trail pass sticker number.

Then the DNR can mail them a ticket.

Basically the same thing here. My neighbor has a trail that leads from my place down to the groomed trail by the Norwich road. He has gates up but gave me written permission a few years back to open the gates to gain access to the trails. Well once there was tracks every tom **** and harry would open those gates and ride right up his private trail to the county road and then either turn around or start riding around my pastures. After I had people CUT my fences and ride into my fields I asked him to lock the gates and call the law if he saw anybody coming through. Somebody has big nuts to start opening gates and cutting fences, if I would have caught them there would be heck to pay.

Maybe it is because my home is in an area that could be considered an "attractive nuisance" and regularly have to kick people out, but I am so afraid to venture into off trail areas. I have permission from a few land owners near our UP house to ride their land but hesitate just for the reason of people following my tracks. I think too many people feel entitled to ride wherever they want because they spent a measly $45 for a trail pass. For the most part the residents of the UP are great, welcoming people, if you feel UN welcomed in the UP it is likely either because you are acting like gods gift to their business or because others have rubbed them the wrong way for you.

The big problem with trespassing is these people don't know if they are on state land or private property. If people did their homework, then they would know where it is legal to ride off trail. If the state put out a map like iron county wi showing where legal boondocking or off trail is allowed, then I think this would be less of an issue. Some may not like this because it makes the legal available spots more publicized, however the map would not say, good hill climbs or good open fields. It is really a shame that some people are so so so ignorant and dumb, because it is really neat we have the opportunity in the UP to ride off trail.

and johndee.com...... I hate to say it but when John shares his pictures of off trail riding with no tracks makes you want to go out and buy a169 with 3in lugs run all over trying to find that sweet spot. Don't get me wrong i look at his site every day its putting ideas in the wrong heads. I hope i didn't offend you john just my opinion

Ezra hit the nail on the head with his post. Being a land owner down south,
our problem is all the side by sides now. It's the same as the sleds in the u.p
People ride them 20 or 30 miles across country because they are basically dune buggies
that run 65 to 70. Where do they ride a 6 foot wide buggy?Across our farm feilds all spring and fall. I feel for the u.p landowners, and especially the guys who do it right off trailing, and get a bad name from the clowns who respect nothing

not trying to point the finger to anyone that uses the go pro cameras. but this year in southern wi i saw at least one on someones helmet out of 10 sleds. who wants to see corn field after hay field and record it. with all the tresspassing for the "big jumps or drifts" that made me wonder that that would be the only thing worth watching agian coming from southern wi. i say close it for a weekend. put a little scare in people around the dane county area when they did it
