Memorial Day Weekend: What are your plans?

New Threads have been few and far between lately so I thought I'd throw this one out there.

Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday which occurs every year on the final Monday of May. Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the Civil War. In 1971 Congress declared it a National Holiday.

We were on the road last weekend burning up some of that $4 Gas so this weekend we're staying closer to home. The wife wants to buy flowers for the landscaping (Oh Gawd, this again). The boat should be ready to launch but it's still up on blocks, I'll need a half a day to get things running and maybe take her out for a spin on Winnebago.

Other than that it's going to be Easy Does It. I've got a taste for Ribs on the Smoker, Memphis Dry Rub the night before, all day on the Smoker and the Ribs will fall apart on the plate.

Have a safe weekend, enjoy the first holiday of the summer, and make it a good one!

Well, let's see. Parade of Homes house is done and ready for the crowds starting Friday at 1pm. Goofing off for Thurs., Yacht Club spring Rendevous for Friday and Saturday in Grand Haven. Sunday head up to the lake and hang out, clear the debris off the roof, mow, start the sled, clear the beach. Head home Monday with powerwasher and Garden Tractor to mow my parking lot next to the Race track. Check on Parade volunteers and power wash my Condo deck. Grill in between. (Sounds like a lot of work).

Heading home to NE Wisconsin for the weekend, mainly for my sister's high school graduation. Otherwise, spending time with family and hopefully catch up with some old HS friends. Probably some yard work and other odds and ends around the home.

Been talking about a gecocaching trip with some geocaching collegues for the last year and finally decided to do it this weekend. We are going to Kansas after the oldest geocache in the world then head north to South Dakota and Mount Rushmore area before heading home. We finally decided to just go for it and have a fun time!

PR1 u building homes now? or letting them run through 1 u had built?
yrs ago I had some in the remodel showcase but quit asking home owners if they want to do it. in fact I have talked some out of it.
no matter how proud they are of there new project it starts to wear on them having all those people run through there home.

Bailing hay (my lawn)
Try finish getting boat ready.
Gary in Neenah, how are the lake flys? Seen few around house last weekend but haven't been by the lake to see how bad they are.

And of course make time for beer or three!
Have good weekend everyone.

Heading to Groveland Oaks to camp. No time travel. it's only 30 minutes away so I'll save about $250 in gas money from our usual trip to the Grayling Jellystone

I have had my Builders and Restorations Contractor license for 26 years now. I have done just the tile, granite, heated floors. Subs for rest on new Parade house, Also have a ton of tile in a Parade of Remodeled homes coming up June 7-8. Parades are a hassle and those homes are put together in a scramble at the end.
Work is picking up big time in the super rich tile jobs. So sticking with that. Niche jobs.
I suspect I am going through lawn mowing withdrawals. At the Condo everything is done for me so I need to mow some other ground, lol. Up north I barely can get the grass to grow in the gray colored sand. So that leaves me the acre and a half next to the Berlin Raceway that I want to mow. I will fit plenty of goof off time in too!

Probably do things in this order:

Trying to make time to work on a sled.
Spreading a 25 yards of mulch and getting yard ready for High School Graduation Open House.
"Staging" in-laws house so they can list it for sale
Going though condos with in-laws
Birthday party for bro-in-law
Dealing with all the stuff my wife says needs to be done before the open house
Trying to figure out where all the time went without working on the sled

I'll be on the road the entire weekend. Driving to Mass to pick up a car with my boy. Can't think of a worse time to drive 2k miles towing a trailer but its the only time I can do it without taking time off work.

They were pretty bad last weekend but the cooler temps and rain have slowed them down. A temporary nuisance once it warms up again.

I know I'm jealous. A lot of bonding time though.

For me, fishing this afternoon, then heading to the U.P. to do a flooring project at my daughter's house. Plan to be back in time to make some serious smoke on the BBQ and spend some time at the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
Thanks again to all the men and women that have served or are serving in the U.S. military!!!!
