Loggers Upset - DNR ~ Passing Info

All this whining has one common thread...no lasting damage in 99% of all cases.

LOL if the reports of a massive check point operation is true and I doubt it was made up, it only proves that the sledding law enforcement
officials haven't either a clue or worry about the overall sledding community and/or IF there is a real concern or if it is mostly trumped up much ado about nada

I hope the off trail riding gets shut down, huge wake up call for all the users and abusers. I gave up on that area for the simple reason EVERYONE and their brother goes there and thinks its THEIR playground and the Locals NEED them there. WRONG.....Respect and common sense are hard to find now a days and with that so will good areas open to ride.

yea and a huge majority of the general public throughout the country absolutely don't need some chitstain on a Harley looking for attention by revvin up there POS wherever they decide is appropriate....we just gotta put up with that nonsense.

if I owned a logging operation and the roosts from sledders were slowing down my production where I would have to go and clean up after them,,,I would also be upset. Same at wild life refuge cabins. it's a pain dealing with disrespectful sledders who have no clue. What's easier, sledder being respectful and not roosting over roads or land owner having to go out and clean up after ricky whanker

If the problem is in the woods why are the DNR check points on the trail? Why aren't they in the woods stoping the trespassing? Typical of the DNR to bother the wrong group.

I own property and never had it posted until I had issues with people that abused it, Now its closed off. Two with attitudes not the same groups after many others put an end to my property being open.
Its not very hard to know if you are on privet land. If we keep this up we will see our system closed down as much of it depends on privet land.

For those that think that the northwood's can't live without you, go into most any northwoods business wearing a Carhartt jacket, and wait till the last group of obnoxious sledders leave and the door closes behind them. Then say something like, "They seemed nice." More often than not the reply will be something like, "Is it April yet?"....:p

It's not an all or nothing affair. While all UP businesses that cater to visitors appreciate folks coming to the area to support their livelihood, I do not know of a single one that wants or feel even remotely indebted to the visitors that come in and are rude, disrespectful and think that without THEM, they all would go belly up. Folks do not live in the UP to become rich with money and are thus more less prone to want to deal with the person that thinks their poop does not stink. So for those of you with that attitude, PLEASE STAY HOME and play in the dirt and grass and leave the UP to those that truly appreciate it and the good folks that live here.

I can see both sides of the argument. Does the UP business owner need the tourist to support their business? I feel the answer is yes if said business wants to be "financially" successful. The exception might be the business in Houghton or Marquette where there is enough of a local economy. I highly doubt the Mosquito or Krupps would be doing the business they are doing with local only traffic. On the other hand, I also understand the frustration the locals have with tourists coming to their backyard and acting like they own the place because they are opening up their wallet. Spending money in the UP does not give you a pass to act any different than you are expected to act in your own back yard.
