I am thinking about starting an anual vintage ride out of Greenland. Just curious how much interest we would have with this. I would offer free lodging and be sure to groom specific trail for a great ride. Bring a cooker in my backpack and have a full day of riding and eating, drinks, etc!!!!!

March would be a great time for this event. If I set one up for 2016 would anyone be interested? I can fit 14 people in my lodging unit so that would be a decent number for a first year event! Also plenty of parking!

Skiroule is probably going to jump in here with the correct answer, I seem to recall it's 25 years. Which would make anything pre 1990 considered "vintage". I've read that most enthusiasts consider the Golden Age of Snowmobiles 1967 to 1975. Oval racing was big back then and we had the most manufacturers with a huge volume of sales.

Well Lenny, I'm way to old and slow for the Sidehiller so this vintage thing appeals to me. You almost pulled this off a couple years or so back when you had the Sno-Jet. If it turns out to be a March thing next year, I can't imagine why I would miss it. Temps might dictate whether I would go fan or free air but hopefully I'd have it covered.

You really could make it an all day event. On a smooth trail, a lot of these sleds can cover some distance. A rough trail, that's a different story. Then of course, there is always the possibility of repair stops.

In answer to your vintage question, I think the general definition of a vintage sled is that it has to have leaf spring suspension.

leaf springs rock! trying to put my deere back together on piece at a time.

What kind of Deere are you working on??? Finally got the Cyclone on the snow and I have to say it's a really fun sled to ride. My brother has a 72 400 that we fixed up a little. He's having a blast with it.

I'm game, if the stars line up. 81 Bravo or I can pull out the very modern 96 Puma 340. The Puma isn't that modern, Chad shot me down on a warranty claim on the break cable? He said it's out of warranty?

Lenny,
I'm in, but you will have to help me get my Kitty Cat down over at Beer Belly Bob's.

One leaf spring per ski,,, I should be good.

Steve-o, I would love to see you ride the kitty around the 13 loop!

My last exciter was a 1980 and it was a leaf spring. I wonder how many years after 1980 leafers were still in?

I am gonna go for it and plan a March Ride. It probably needs to be a weekend to allow for work schedules and at the same time traffic will be light in March but will the weather hold out,,,,typically on average it does but with all this "global warming" going on who knows,,,lol

so, the hunt is on now for a sled. My first sled was a 1974 Merc S/R 440 and I actually liked that sled so maybe I'll go that route.

79 Trailfire. I totally disassembled it, then lost interest about 5 years ago. Put it back together and had the motor burn up. Right now I've got the sled in the shop with a new motor. I just need to order a few things and get the clutches rebuilt.

I would consider coming up. March is best for me to plan trips. Earlier than that and trips are all last minute.

Working on finishing a '74 Evinrude and Sleighmate. If they're ready next year I'd be interested in a vintage ride.

I am nearly finished with a complete rebuild of a 1981 Arctic Cat Jag 4000 (leaf springs) that was originally purchased brand new by my family from Killinun's in Lake Linden. I would love to join a vintage ride and partake in the "vintage" type of snowmobiling (i.e., build a bonfire in the woods, cook hot dogs, and have some fun on the sleds)!

I'm always on the lookout for old iron. My dad sent me this one this morning!
