Here's what the Wisconsin Trail Pass looks like

According to the instructions it's supposed to be placed at the bottom of the windshield. If you don't have a windshield, placed somewhere prominently on the hood.

Hey, don't shoot the messenger. I have a Doo Insignia on the bottom of my windshield and it looks a lot better than this but what are you gonna do?

Looks like same colors as new WI registration sticker. I'm installing higher windshield this year & will have both MI & WI trail permit in hand & figure out best sticker placements at that time. My Club is saying stayed tuned for WI trail permit purchase instructions & should have a defined procedure by August.... No problem plenty of time and sent my check to my club a couple of weeks ago. Might be smart to start your WI Club trail permit purchase process early as I'm not sure WI clubs can accomodate last minute permit crush but to each his own. I know I'm going to ride both WI & MI trails so no need to wait.:)

Just so you know, because of the way I read this. You will NOT get your trail pass from the club you join. Your club just needs to get your membership into the AWSC office in a very timely manner. You will get a reduced trail pass from the AWSC office, if you join a club. Non-club members will receive their trail pass from the DNR.

Anybody heard anything about the vintage registration process? I had heard it may become a one time deal for x amount of money. Not sure if trail pass needed for vintage or just registration sticker?

think in MN u pay like 9.50 need no numbers or stickers . u get a 10 day a yr use on state and grant in aid trails for as long as u own the sled. how they know how many days a yr u trail ride your vintage is beyond me. kind of the same sweet scam we have for collector plates on cars and bikes in MN.
cracks me up when u see them on a POS rusted out Granada or old B210 hatchback

I can't see anything going wrong with this system. Instead of waiting for the government to issue your pass, you wait for an overworked volunteer from club to tell the AWSC you qualify for reduced permit.

I ride out of Eagle River/Phelps once a year normally for 4 or 5 day - if the snow is good, we stay mostly in Wisconsin. If not, we ride mostly in the UP. What club should I join in Wisconsin? What are the requirements to start a club?

https://www.awsc.org/Clubs/Club-Listing.aspx

Here is a listing of all the clubs in the state. Maybe join a club in the area that you ride.

As far as starting your own club, that is fine, you can do that. But, your club will need a minimum of 10 members. Those 10 members will also have to pay dues to the AWSC to get the reduced trail pass.

Antique sleds, that are 35 years old or older, can be registered as an Antique for $20 with a $5 renewal. These sleds will receive a unique registration decal to keep them separate from the other sleds. Antique sleds will be exempt from a trail pass.

Exactly my thoughts regarding Clubs & starting the WI permit process now. Also told it takes 30 days to process new club membership applications.....should it be a faster process?.... I'm not sure but don't really care as know I will be riding WI & MI trails this winter unless I'm dead. lol Join the Club that you use their trail system the most or join multiple clubs if you prefer. For me I have to start from Phelps so always coming & going from here but not where I log the most miles that would be Iron County MI so I buy both state permits.

Looks like those stickers just earned themselves a spot in the windshield bag. Yuck!

really it is a 3"x3" sticker, get over it......this coming from someone that spray painted their ski loops a few years ago and I believe they ended up looking purple. If that sticker is the worst thing you have to complain about in life I am glad for your sake.

Trail Pass - if you belong to a club and have a AWSC number, all you need to do is reference the number and order on the AWSC.org site and pass is sent. Ordered both mine on 7/2/15 and received yesterday. Stickers arrived in envelope with same heading and address as DNR and where registration stickers come from. I would order direct, rather then waiting for club to submit on your behalf. Again, if you have a AWSC number, you are good to go.

There is no reason for any club to take 30 days to process a new membership. Even with snail mail it shouldn't be more than a week. Many clubs do their memberships with the AWSC online. So if you pay your dues tonight, the membership chair sends your membership and dues to the AWSC online the next day. Boom, you're a member. I realize not all clubs operate this way, but many do.

Clubs are not responsible for submitting your trail pass. It is up to each individual to get their own pass. Clubs only send in your membership dues, they have nothing to do with the pass itself.

C,mon man, after a couple years on your own riding without the folks in the UP and you're turning your back on WI?? Oh well, more room on the trails for the rest of us, lol.

On the lookout for a trail sled for around home. Not sure I'll have the time to ride it to justify buying it going through it and replacing all worn parts though. There's one a half hour from me for a pretty good deal just haven't talked myself into going and looking at it.

Thanks for the info. I think I may have to stop in at the DNR office because when I tried to renew online I did not have the option of registering as Antique. I could only renew for how it is set up currently. I will probably have to get the registration changed first at the office, and then be able to renew as antique in the future.

That is the club policy like I said could it be faster ? ...probably.... but remember all clubs are different & to me no use pushing a rope up a hill if they need the time I'm fine with it. A lot of truth to what Hoosier said about overworked club members so give them a break & time to process your dues & get your AWSC #. If not joining a club go directly to the DNR for your WI trail pass.
