All my riding buds stepped back from Sidewinder just don't need monster sled but they hunger for an Apex replacement in 150 -160 hp zone & then there was the cat chassis thing not a big deal in my mind but to them no interest in a sled configured like that. These guys have big bucks just didn't care for Sidewinder holding out for 2018 break thru Apex replacement from Japan. If doo FINALLY address Apex market at 150-160 hp there will be converts from Yamaha...Poo no 4s not in the game so doo could steal the market from Yamaha with the right sled. 2018 do or die year for Yamaha & they know it.

I just dont see doo making a NA 4 stroke in that power range. Too close to the 850/800etecs, but ya never kno.

The 2016 1200 is closer to 140 than 130 and guys that are clutching them to spin more rpms are seeing mid 140s for hp. The best setup 1200 i seen on dyno NA was 152.

Got to believe the end of the Apex is near. Probably just using up leftover motors for '17. We will have the Sidewinder and the Vector. Really hard to get off an Apex and get on a Vector. I tried that. It didn't work. I looked at a 'Winder really hard. But like Ezra says very hard to justify the cost for the riding we have not had for two years. Plus the instrumentation is really lame. When it is all said and done it isn't going to weigh much less than an Apex. There is not a huge market for a 200 HP trail sled. It will be too heavy for the serious mountain guys. I wonder how many they will actually sell. 'Doo much better positioned all across the board. I don't think they care if they have a hyper sled. They are selling the snot out of what they already have.

they will put that motor in a water craft way before a sled. prob next season cuz in doo fashion they are adding 1 more plastic body ski this coming season dropping the durable glass hull in the GT line and making it like the junk spark hull and need something in that 140 to 150 range to slap in it after this coming season. lets just pray the turbo lasts longer than the total junk superchargers they keep building . hope they change whole line to a more durable turbo

Just read a 2016 Cat 9000 137 shipping weight is 619lbs, would assume sidewinder is close or more being 3 cyl's

900ace version should be a lot lighter, but how much power?

Doo can give us 150ish 4s power easy in a trail sled. My doo dealer cam back from meetings upset it was not offered and other dealers disappointed as well...I think doo heard them both 4s super charger & turbo has been on the snow just a matter of doing it. 850 etec a good step for 2 smoker market but 4s market not addressed.... Yamaha and Cat all monster sleds no need for big hp for meat of 4s trail market. 130 not enough but 150 to 160 plenty for any trail sled.
Pete, no offense buddy but keep in mind your a tad older and many love the 165 feel, I know I do. Yammi tends to be a loner, look at the YXZ in SXS dirt dept! Over they years many auto, bike, sled etc builds muscle and peeps love it. It won't dominate the market but bragging rights still live in the hearts of manufacturers.

I hear ya Lenny no doubt I can have fun with big ponies on snow. I don't like fooling around when I have to pass after waiting and waiting to get the trail. Sometimes you just need to take it as leader an I have the advantage of knowing what is coming. We are all on Apex just 1 Viper so I know they are all powering by as well with me. I luv midrange punch that is my thing could care less about jackrabbit starts & tearing up the groom. I'm looking for an Apex replacement this year if not available a used Sidewinder might be afforable. I know lots of guys buy sleds keep a year or 2 then on something new again and with Pat's as middle man it could happen for me but for now looking for a stock 4s sled 136-144 in the 150 - 160 hp zone to replace 2012xtx when the time comes. So far no OEM has filled the Apex market but Yamaha so maybe doo will doo it?

I agree with everything you said and Sidewinder selling very well. There are lots of TY hp junkies for Sidewinder so easy for Yamaha to offer to those peeps once AC asked for Tcat thumper. Sidewinder not an Apex or Vector replacement so not the sled the Yamaha core desires but 2018 Anniv. a big year for Yamaha so maybe the release of the composite sled patent....whooooo knows?

Q: I'm looking for a 120 for my kid to get started on. Any ideas? He likes Polaris and Cat.

A: Whitedust: Make sure you take a look at a Vector or Apex. Vector not enough power for cruising Villas trails so 150 hp Apex probably the way to go. Power steering will make it easy for that 5 yr old to control it. Just gas and go.

Yeah, that will happen....keep talking! We just Indy to free up some time so someone can wave the Poo pompoms too...

HOOSIER if your interested I restored a ....(I think this is what it is as its been years since I looked at it and I have 12 sleds so remembering exactly what it is without looking) 1981 YAMAHA 340 ET ENTICER DELUX III with electric start for kids....cannot remember exact year and if its a ET an or an EC...it is a RARE 2 seater two up touring enticer with electric start that was a rental sled for out west back then in Yellowstone....the 2 up seat is off and a brand new single I had a Harley guy make new is on it....I spent like 1400 bucks making it original from buying parts on BOATS.NET which has bought ALL OLD YAMAHA OEM PARTS IN THE US...very hard to find stuff...and I only use OEM building sleds.....its beautiful actually as I had DRAGON08 paint the thing CAMARO BLACK GLOSS....she just sits there...in my warehouse....protected on wooden floor on wooden pallet in a heated building...make me an offer if you like...of anything I wont be offended....I gave a guy called TRACKSTAND one of my other kids sleds and he was absolutely thrilled and still has it running 8 years later...I restored that also and she was sweet...I told him same thing...I put about 1800 in that 1999 Z370 with electric start and 10 picks in track....he offered me 1000 and since its for his kids and someone else would actually be using her again I said take it....he was shocked at the condition I can tell you that...same offer my friend...if you want....I live by you too

WD; I have thrown in the towel for a new Yami chassis/sled. I don't see the numbers to make it possible, or $$$$$ wise. They can have their market with the numbers they have now, with another mfgs chassis, and Yami power. They have just passed on too much time, and many people have already moved on. I agree that 2018 is a big year for Yami sleds, but the AC thing is working great for both mfs. Yami still has a sled in the business, and AC has a good power source. By far more equitable for AC to produce a new chassis than Yami. As always it's all about the $$$$$$$$$$.

Clicked on my kids old Youtube, GoPro footage of him an the Apex chasing me on the Vector up trail 13N to Bents Camp and I gotta say, I miss the sound of that sled...and that insane mid-range punch. I can see why some of you Yammy guys can't let it go.

The pull and the sound is very addicting. It makes a person forget about all the other shortcomings of the sled. But a long time has passed now. Many sleds to choose from now that offer similar power in a much better package. And a lot of them are Doos. They sell a lot of sleds. We are getting to the point that. That many people can't be wrong.

Personally i just wish doo would turbo the 1200 and be done with it. The engine has proven to be super reliable with turbos and can take more power in stock form than any. Many running over 500hp on stock internals

. who is running 500 on stock internals ?

Bunch of guys used to run 500 on stock internals, unfortunately now u need 7-800 hp to compete in the outlaw classes

The zuks could handle 4-440 tops

Apex mid 3's

1200 , 500-520

I know a few guys who race pro and have not seen a 500hp doo with out bottom end work.
the zuk can do a very safe 400 with head bolts just over 5 with rods then it gets expensive for more.
1 thing to remember about drag racers is they are all a bunch of liar's . even when U are standing there in the shop looking at a open motor .

One of the first to do it with the 1200 was Greg Bennett, his first trip to the dyno he was pushing 430 HP with back in 09, using a 66 Aerocharger at just 22 lbs of boost way back in 09 with some antique fuel delivery stuff and keeping the RPM's below 8500 on a stock unopened 1200 engine. That was back before he started using better components and raising the RPM up! He frequently pushed it over 540 HP on that stock engine!
