New Sled Lift

As I posted in a thread about the Milwaukee show, I planed to buy a lift when I went to the show but my wife came with and gave me the "you don't need one of those" looks.

Well I still looked at them when I was there and really liked the ones made by a guy named Joe Wipperfurth who started a company called Ground Up Lifts. They aren't the cheapest (like the ones on EBay), but they aren't the most expensive either. He is a great guy that is carrying on with the skills his dad taught him, and is even working out of his dad's old shop in Sun Prairie WI. His dad passed away sometime ago (I don't remember exactly when he said) and it took a while for him to come back to the shop but now he has come back and is making some great lifts. The Milwaukee show was his first time at a show and he hoped to sell enough to cover the booth fee. Not only did he do that, he sold everything he brought and came home with orders to fill! He told me he canceled Novi because he needed to spend time building lifts to fill all his orders and didn't want to get so far behind that guys would get ticked of at him because things were taking too long. He puts out a great product, really nice welds, good wheel kits, square/straight frames, and everything is powder coated in one of about 10 or more colors (some neon or metallic colors cost a couple bucks extra) that look great.

I called him on the weekend of the show and ordered mine to pick up this month. When I went and got it (he offered to ship it pretty cheap but I wanted to get it myself) we sat in his shop and talked for a while. He does a little advertising, but not much, has a Facebook page and just started a website. I told him about John's site so maybe he'll show up on here sometime, but I wanted to tell you all how great the lift is. I couldn't be happier and it works perfect! If you're looking for a lift I'd get a hold of him and talk over stuff with him, he's a great honest unassuming guy that has some real talent. Here is his info https://www.facebook.com/Grounduplifts http://www.grounduplifts.com/

Here are a few shots of the lift and my sled on it. I didn't have it all the way up when I took them, but it does go the rest of the way up so everything is straight up when it's in it full upright position.

I've been looking for a good lift. Looks like a real nice piece. Like that green also, and its made by a good Wisconsin boy.
Thanks for posting. I am going to order one.

I am in the market for a shop lift. I saw this old post and am interested to know if people are still happy with their purchased lifts. The Ground Up model looks and sounds great so I am leaning toward getting that one. Any advice?

Mine works awesome !! He's only 45 minutes from me,so it was nice to be able to pick it up at his shop. Turns out he gets them powder coated just a few miles from me...

Bought the same one a year ago , piece of junk ,fell apart in less than six months. You get what you pay for it.

Looks nice! Did you get a different sled?

Edit: nevermind - I see this thread is from 2014...

I like the wheel kit. It is also a short platform for the sled to rest on so it can then be a lower profile.
Does it raise easily with a cordless drill?

I have a Rec lift. I've had it for 13 yrs. I have only replaced the screw jack once, I store my sled on it all year long. Works great, they are expensive but it's worth it. Many of my friends have bought other cheap lifts and they seem to fall apart after some time. The Rec lift is sturdy when the sled is up to do maintenance.

This lift has been nothing but great, have no complaints. is little more expensive but very high quality, for how long ive had it, worth it.

that looks nice with wheels underneath .I have to twist and shove to get rear wheels past ski on the deep snow sleds . sort of a pita. only thing is how well to those small wheels roll over cracks and pebbles and such on the garage floor?

Mine has been great. No problems, I'd but it again for sure. I've left sleds on it for a while, or packed it up and set it aside for a few months at a time and whenever I come back to it everything works just fine. I have only used a corded drill to raise/lower it so can't comment about the cordless question, but that will really depend upon the power of your drill, not the lift. Not sure what nc666 had issues with, but if it was this lift I can't imagine what went wrong. It's pretty stout.

I ordered some other welding service from him since I bought the lift and he is a great guy to work with.

A friend of mine bought one last fall and the jack started leaking. He got the problem solved right away over the phone, and while he was on the phone he ordered 2 more...

Thanks for all your help. After comparing the two I ordered the one from Madsled. That one was rated for more weight and the Ground Up model was not really cheaper when you add in the wheel kit and shipping costs. Plus it looked like Ground Up charged extra for things like the crank shaft and crank adapter. Looking forward to trying this out.
