years ago a friend of mine had family mc dealership - we used to take the new stuff out and go cruising- step one: unscrew the odometer cable from from the front axle- --it happens but like yamdude said an extra 2000 miles or 50 hours on a 4stroke yame is not much damage to the life of a yame

lol we all use to do that to our parents cars

sjb it's time to lawyer up for sure!!! Polaris Dan are you sure on the every thing was lost??? If that is the case, when a dealer plugs into the ECU he will get the real hours.

Tampering with a dash on a unit is never good. I had a instance last year with a sled that had a odometer issue and we still under warranty. The dash went out on it so I replaced it under warranty. I let every person know about it before I sold it. Customers are fine with things but you have to be truthful about it before the sale otherwise you've set yourself up for failure as a dealer. I've certainly made my share of mistakes over the year but I don't make them knowingly. A guy gotta sleep at night:) In my opinion being as this was a factory sled sale, Yamaha would get involved and it would surprise me if they don't. Yamaha does not tolerate dealers who don't represent them in a professional manner. There are a lot of Yamaha auctions units out there but those units are still factory supported. If a dealer tampers with them Yamaha will not take kindly to that as Yamaha represents them 100% accurate so the dealer knows upfront exactly what he or she is getting. There's a reason dealers can advertise these sleds cheaper, they pay less for them. Most sleds you see advertised at low prices are usually a auction unit. Dealers cannot lose thousands and stay in business. Little of topic here, sorry.

5-700 vs. probably well over 2000 is a full season or two for most riders - and that makes a huge difference in pricing when buying a used sled.

Clearly with the "stealer" not wanting to own up to his blatant screwing you over, I would never go back. For anything.

Not sure its worth fighting, other than doing your best to smear his name.

um...its possibly not the dealer but the customer....lets say if you was ta own a sled....and ya wanted top dolla upon trade in.....so ya get this idea that ya gonna unplug the speedo for a spell so that the miles are low for trade in....then you did this year after year...and then ya got the brilliant idea that since no one was noticing this...what if ya upped it even more....I digress....carry on.....DOH

This is why I buy used sleds from Pat's. Kip will tell you up front if he suspects a sled has been laid over or if the used sled has any signs of abuse so you know exactly what you are buying. I don't think I will buy a sled from anyone but Kip.... maybe a private party I know very well but my dealer is Pat's.....none better that I have found.

Hoping as Kip stated, Yamaha will get involved and correct this deal to the customer. If a deal is too good to be true, it more than likely is. The difference between a good deal, and a bad deal!!! Good luck sjb!!!

Thanks for all the replies and support. To be honest, I feel a bit like a fool and should have known better. I will live and learn from this, just need to decide next step, if any.

Kip - I was wondering if you were going to respond because usually you are spot on. I have been in touch with Yamaha customer service, and while they were pleasant to deal with, I hit a dead end. Basically was told I will need a subpoena to move forward. To do that, I believe I will need an attorney. Is there another person you might know I could be in contact with to elevate? Of course, your name and business will stay out of this.

FWIW, I am registered on this sled as the first owner, with a 1 year standard Yamaha warrantee.

That doesn't sound like Yamaha, they will usually contact the dealer and help them or encourage them to resolve the issue. That response leads me to believe that the dealer is not being forthcoming with the story and possibly throwing you under the bus claiming you knew the situation. I'm not saying that's for sure what's happening but when Yamaha backs away that's what I'm thinking. As far as the customer is concerned Yamaha is awesome at resolving any issue unless the dealer is not on the side of the customer. You don't have to feel like a fool, you should be able to trust people but that's not always the case unfortunately. 103 hours does amount to a good amount of miles no doubt. Good to know you have a warranty. No worries on the engine but it's nice to cover chaincase and drive line which some good miles have obviously been used up there.

Going back to the 70's and the SRX's...never had a problem getting all the parts we needed. Same goes for the 80's, 90's 2000's and today....although recently, all we needed was a belt or 2 and hyfax.

Clutches at 10,000 miles.
