Only 1 trip to Munising this year. I had to cancel the other trips..... 265miles total. I blame myself a bit for the weather. I spring ordered 2 new skidoos in 2022 and bought a new legend trailer. Had one good year and jinxed ever since... Hoping for a better year next year!

Well I will end this year at 1302. I was able to get a trip in over March 7th to the 9th with my youngest son. I wish I could have made a trip work with both boys as well but you know how the highschool years are...
Having some one on one time with each of them was great too!

My 1st trip to the Yoop, I was a senior in high school. I skipped school. My uncle picked me up early in the morning. We dumped the sleds in Mass City, rode to Copper Harbor and back to Mass City and drove back home, all in 1 day. We live just west of Wausau, WI. The trails were as smooth as a highway and it snowed HARD all morning. A trip I'll never forget. I had a Scorpion Sidewinder, my uncle had an early Indy 600 and his friend had a Phazer. This was early 1988. The reason for my reply to your post. Let the kid skip school for a day or 2 and create the memories. You won't regret it. That trip hooked me on the U.P. Now at 55, I can't wait to retire there.

Would love to hear about the Ontario trip…

1570 miles so far. 70 yesterday in Munising. Trails were rock hard ice. Scratchers down running about 30-35 mph, whoops were actually kind of fun. Woods were good but rock hard.
We crossed into Canada at SSM, stayed the night 30 miles north in Searchmont. Rode from Searchmont, Hearst, Cochrane, Abitibi canyon loop, down towards Sudbury and back to Searchmont. Trip had to be extended by a day as the trail between Timmins and Foleyet down to Chapleau was still closed. I have more pictures posted over on dootalk as well. Best trip I have ever taken.

Its a bucket list trip of mine to go to Cochrane. How hard was it to get there from MN?

Ugh. One trip to The Black Hills with a broken a-arm to account for it. Work was busy after that trip, so haven't done another yet. Just got booked for our first time to The Big Horns in a couple weeks. Then ending the season a couple weeks after that with a Spring Break trip to Togwotee. First time there as well.
Made it back from Togwotee in one piece! No broken parts for once! Best two days of riding we have EVER had! Got dumped on while we were out there and it was absolutely EPIC riding! Highly recommend getting Skinner Bell with 3c to get on the best snow / areas. He has lived out there for 30+ years and guides horses in the summer as well. He knows those mountains like the back of his hand!!! Literally knew where every single bump was! The drive back was another story....... Three f'n days to get back home to Iowa! First day finally called it quits around 10pm as the blizzard was getting pretty bad. Woke up day 2 from a hotel only to find that Nebraska DOT had closed down i80 in both directions. Spent that day driving north & south more than east, trying to find any roads that were open. On the road 12hrs that day and only progress 4hrs closer to home before hanging it up for the night due to impassable alternate routes. It was brutal!!! Day 3 woke up and praise be to God, they had finally re-opened i80.

It's a damn good thing the riding was epic, cuz it made up for the nightmare getting home! Season is D-O-N-E!!!

Miles unknown, we count days.......
One day on the snow in The Black Hills (one more than last season, so that's progress I guess). Two days in The Big Horns where we had a blast with what snow they had. Capped off with two AMAZING days at Togwotee (less the drive home).

The kid "officially" thinks he needs an 850 now. Skinner gave him some riding tips that greatly improved his skills!

Have done this loop more than a few times, some of the best riding you will ever experience. Although it gets kinda boring from Hearst over to Cochrane thru Kapaskasing and down to Timmins.....big wide and long straight trails...Sidewinder country for sure. Its been a decade since we have been there, but this post makes me wanna go back next season. Won't have any problem selling the group that we need to go back.

Final 1870. Spent last week in Munising. Scratchers down much of the week and most trails were flat ice except Seney (Whooped out). Unfortunately they were quiet and we found one trail dug down by loggers the entire length. Tried riding the woods to get around it but eventually had to turn around at the river.

Not very hard. It just depends on if you want to drive your vehicle or sled to Cochrane. All together we did 1400 miles in 7 days of riding. From where we live in Red Wing it was about a 10 hour drive with gas stops and food to go. Very easy to cross the border, you either need a passport or the Enhanced ID. You do have to pay a $8 fee for truck and trailer both ways just so you know. Also just so people know on. the SSM side they have a casino that you can exchange money to Canadian and back to US currency as it is easier to use the correct money. The exchange rate is in our favor as well.

I see alot of sledTV and sledaddicz videos from that area and it would be great to open up the 900R on those trails. Is it easier to go SSM route or north through grand portage? I assume a bit easier with the casino, towns, and such that you mentioned going the SSM way.
