    Tough Sledding at Ski Doo

I think I was on it once up by Tower?? I don't travel far from home to ride. If I ride around home, Cloquet, I will get on the Munger once in awhile but just for short sections. Otherwise I'm 99% in the Finland, MN area.

    Tough Sledding at Ski Doo

So we ride primarily the North Shore and its all twisty trails so my normal speed might be 35-40. Forest roads we'll run at 50-70. Lots of boondocking at 10-20. We don't have RR grades up there where you can run 80+ (plus we have a 50 MPH speed limit in MN) but there are times we get on lakes...

    Best tunnel bag?

I don't have any great pictures of it but I just bought a hard sided plastic Apache case from Harbor Freight and used the slots in the Polaris tunnel to mount it. Waterproof, solid, lockable. Can't take it off at night like the Linq bags but at $40 its tough to beat.

    Tough Sledding at Ski Doo

I agree with what you are saying and how you ride. I have zero need for the speed of my 850 and have actually geared it down and I'm sure it's never even seen 85 mph. When I say fun factor I just reference grabbing the throttle and pulling the ski's, the acceleration, the ability to pop up out...

    Tough Sledding at Ski Doo

So i was the guy out of my group that always rode a 600 vs their 800-850's. I could go everywhere they did or more, always lead the group rides etc.. Said there was no need for that big of a sled, blah blah blah. But then I bought a 850 and wow, the fun factor is so much higher. Was going to...

We got back last week from Roatan. What an amazing vacation.

    Retirement Scenario

We are just the opposite. We have a log home and it's maintenance central while our cabin is vinyl siding, metal roof, and tiny yard. Still always something to do though. And I always get annoyed when my wife or kids complain that I'm/they are always working on projects when we are up there. How...

    Retirement Scenario

Very true. We know if we kept working til I was 65 we'd have enough money saved that we could do anything we ever wanted too but there are things I want to do that I may not be able to do at 65 or may not be around to do at 65. I want to snowmobile in Revelstoke, go on a moose hunt in the Yukon...

    Retirement Scenario

So we are struggling with this plan right now. Plan to retire within the next 12-20 months. Don't know where we want to end up but know its not where we currently live. Got a kid in NYC and one in Montana. Have a cabin up on the north shore in Finland, MN where the sledding is great but don't...

    Last year vs This year

The plan is to start the plan towards retirement. Going to move to the cabin in Finland, MN but still keep working for at least another year. Not sure where the long term residence is so if we move a long ways away we’ll want to have lived at our cabin for at least 2 years so we don’t have to...

    Last year vs This year

Thanks. We like it. But it’ll be for sale in about 3 months if anybody is interested in moving to Cloquet, MN.

I had just looked at pictures from last year to this year also. This is from 3/12/23 and 3/12/24

    West Yellowstone Trip

No they don't! This is a 25th anniversary trip. We actually got married in Jamaica but wanted to try something different for this trip. But my wife wanted to bring both of our kids along so our daughter is flying there from NYC and will meet us there and our son will fly to Mpls and then fly...

    West Yellowstone Trip

Ran out to West Yellowstone over the weekend to see my son. Had a couple of friends come out also and we timed it perfect. Got there Thursday afternoon and it started snowing. When we headed out Friday morning there was 12" fresh snow down on the south plateau where we played for the day. Just...

    New truck options

Although I know you're not in MN we have a crazy law here on vehicle registrations that make going to a 1 ton a financially sound idea. Vehicle registration costs in MN are based on vehicle value except for 1 ton trucks or bigger. If I'd bought a 3/4 ton truck it would cost somewhere between...

    New truck options

I'll get a trip report up soon. But in regards to the winds, yes, we hit some headwinds on the way out and it was fine. No real crosswinds at all. Coming back though we hit glare ice for about 200 miles and the heavier truck felt more planted on that.

    New truck options

So I'll be one to tell you to go bigger. I went from a 2016 F150 with the 5.0 to a 2023 F350 with the 7.3 and 3.73 rear end. Just got back from pulling 2200 miles to west yellowstone and back with a 4 place trailer, averaged 9.3 MPG at 75 MPH. I've pulled that trailer a lot with my 1/2 ton and...
