Off trail riding on the local news

Regarding the private land owners and trails easements you are correct in it not being a lease, it is legally called a “Recreational agreement" In my situation (described above) where someone was injured while trespassing I was referring to something that happened in Indiana, not Wisconsin. I...

Off trail riding on the local news

My sons (37 & 34) have their's in their phone. The DNR will email you a copy if you contact them. You can take the course online, I think it costs around $35.

No enforcement by the dealers that I'm aware of. I would think rentals would check if the person renting is under 37. Not sure about trail passes. The way I see it enforced is the same way they enforce the trail pass or drinking. They set up trail blocks and stop everyone. They look for...

It is in the PI, MW, BJ areas. There are way more of the environmentalists owning or living here than sled owners. And they are WAY more organized. Also better funded. Some of the groups are affiliated with much larger, national organizations. They get guidance, legal help and funding at times.

Very smart. I have every parcel or place I own in either a trust or LLC, depending on it's purpose. That plus a liability umbrella hopefully will protect me.

Off trail riding on the local news

In my case if the land has no improvements the liability falls under my umbrella policy. There is no way I would not have insurance. Even if the state laws supposedly protect the land owner you still have to defend against lawsuits and lawyers don't work cheap. Your liability policy pays for...

In wisconsin anyone born after January 1st, 1985 has to take the snowmobile safety course to legally operate.

I fully understand Abe's comments. I had the exact thing happen to me. I had a guy trespassing on my land fall 21 feet when the straps on one of his stands broke. He really messed himself up, broken collarbone, femur, some broken ribs and a punctured lung. Nearly died. We figure he was...

    Gogebic area

The area you mention doesn't appear to have been groomed since before the weekend. I was told yesterday that the groomer that is housed in Marenisco is down again and they are waiting on parts to fix. Supposed to be fixed and back up by the weekend. I checked the groomer app yesterday and...

St.Germain to porcupine Mtn and back

I ran the lake up/down today. It was good. If the ice is similar to PI there should be 12" or more by now. Except for the NE or SE corners where the water enters/leaves.

    Snowmobiler hit by Car

I think numbers are up. It also seems like there is more riders during the week versus just on the weekends.

Off trail riding on the local news

Not directly addressed to Indy but just to address the comment which I know is shared by others. One of the reasons is because there is a large and very organized movement of non-motorized or silent sports people in the area. Many, if not most of these folks would love to eliminate all...

    Snowmobiler hit by Car

    I think that's correct, 29 or 30 in the early 90's.

St.Germain to porcupine Mtn and back

In Marenisco I would simply go on up 1 to 100 to the bottom of Lake Gogebic. Then run the lake north up to the Hoop at the NW corner. Hop off there onto trail 1/8 across Highway 28. Continue north a couple miles or less to 102 and run it up to 11 or the south boundary road. Run it around to the...

    When you ride in town

Just another example of people coming up and thinking they can go anywhere they please.

I couldn't agree more. I know I'm getting older and inching ever closer to the "get off my lawn" age but it seems that the last couple years has really brought out the self centered a-holes. I have seen more selfish, look at me behavior this year than I can recall. I'm not sure if it's mostly...

Off trail riding on the local news

I see DNR in PI once or twice a season. Usually on the traditionally busy weekends like Presidents or MLK. They usually sit just west of PI at either the park ponds by the bridge or at the mini-storage west of that. I did see them once at the end of Bayview road. I've seen them once this...

Cell service Northern WI and UP

I'm in PI and have had the opposite experience with cell service. Ours has always been fine, and it is the same this year. The only place we lose service is after we're east of Zastro's on B.

    More Trespassing Issues, Tomahawk Area

Yes it is, and getting worse every year. I anticipate smaller lakes will see the wake boat ban soon, probably some this summer being implemented on a town level. They will do it by using an expanded no wake zone. Instead of the commonly accepted 200 foot from shore limit they will increase it to...

    More Trespassing Issues, Tomahawk Area

This is very true. Up until recently I was on a board up here that consisted of mostly silent sports people. It wasn't that way when I originally agreed to be on the board but it had changed quite a bit in the last ten years. It got to a point where a major portion of every board meeting was...
