    Boondock Inn/Mosquito Semi-Retired Iron Classic 2025

Day 2: The ride planned for the second day was roughly the same distance as the first day but included a lunch stop at a local establishment before making the return trip. The sled count increased to over 60 for this ride and I’m told would have been more if it hadn’t started in the rain. All...

    Boondock Inn/Mosquito Semi-Retired Iron Classic 2025

I figured that since this thread does involve sledding and an area of the U.P. many of you are familiar with, I’m hoping it is of interest. I had a little trouble figuring how to break it up but decided to split it into three posts, one for each day of the event. I apologize in advance for the...

    Mosquito Inn Vintage Snowmobile Show

There’s always next year, think they’ll still be making creamy dark. I’ll have one ready. The Boondock Inn/Mosquito Inn vintage weekend kicked off today with the “Iron Butt” ride, which ended up being just under 50 miles. About 50 sleds turned out for this ride with roughly 60% sporting leaf...

    Mosquito Inn Vintage Snowmobile Show

I sold my 18 footer and they would have easily fit in that but this is only a 12 so it would take a lot of jockeying and even then I'm not sure it could be done. Would be nice to still have the 18 but couldn't justify two trailers. Maybe I need less sleds....never considered that option.

    Mosquito Inn Vintage Snowmobile Show

Well Gary, when it comes to vintage sleds, it’s not much of a stretch to say “the one that I can get started.” It’s not always a given. A 71 triple is an awesome (and very hard to find) sled. You were wise to hold onto it. I do like the 79’s. I’ve been riding this particular 340 for over ten...

    Mosquito Inn Vintage Snowmobile Show

Took the 79 TX out for a spin this morning to check out new carbs/jetting. This will be the sled of choice for the "Iron Butt" ride and the ride on Friday. At -19, that free-air motor absolutely flies. This is going to be fun!

    If You've Ever Said....

Holy cow Gary, enough with the cold! I'm pretty sure we've been well below zero every night in February. Today we worked our way up to a whopping -5. My truck rides like a Conestoga wagon. Even for someone that was born and raised in this area, it's starting to wear on me. It's not just me...

    A Sunday Morning 60 miler

Very cool Gary! This the kind of stuff you hope for. Get a nice dump of snow and hit it early. Snow looks good, better than a lot of areas are seeing this year.

    Mosquito Inn Vintage Snowmobile Show

I haven’t talked to DWZ yet so I don’t know his schedule but I will be booking into the Boondock Inn for the duration. A couple of big rides on Thursday & Friday (for vintage sleds anyway) but I’m sure we’ll be back in time for happy hour. I’ll be making my way over to the Mosquito on Saturday...

    Fear the Deere

I remember that and for one reason or another I couldn’t get my act together. Looks like winter will be around much longer this year and that should give me more time to get my ducks (or snowmobiles) in a row.

    Mosquito Inn Vintage Snowmobile Show

The Boondock Inn is hosting a vintage event February 27th through March 1st. The first two days are vintage riding days but there will be a vintage snowmobile show at the Mosquito inn on March 1st starting at 1:00 pm. If you happen to be in the area, stop in, grab some lunch and a beverage and...

    Fear the Deere

It’s funny you should mention this because I've actually been giving this some thought this year. I really don’t have as many as it would seem, probably because it takes me so dang long to get them rebuilt or even just up and running. I would like to do this though, it might make it more...

    Fear the Deere

Thanks guys! I’m glad you approve of the end result. This sled was passed over multiple times in favor of other projects but it waited patiently for its turn. Maybe I had a master plan (doubtful) because if this turns out to be the final project, this sled was the perfect choice. It would be...

    Fear the Deere

Well gang, the Deere has been released into the wild. It’s always kind of an odd feeling when it hits you that it’s really finished, I took it for a test spin and damn, it’s fun to ride! I can’t explain why these sleds ride so well for a leafer. The seat change moves the rider position higher...

    Fear the Deere

The skill of these upholstery guys never ceases to amaze me. They do stuff I can’t imagine ever being able to do and they make it look routine. This guy that did my seat has been doing John Deere snowmobile seats for years and is considered somewhat of a legend in that respect. I suspect he has...
