I drove through Vilas county this morning. Looked like some grooming had been done on the north end of the county. I assume some of yesterdays lake effect made it down that way. Throw in the clipper coming tonight hopefully the season can start.

THe good news is this storm is a week out. Hopefully it shifts north where we can use it to get this snowmobile season started.

The biggest culprits of trespassing is so often locals or semi locals. They often have the mentality of they live up there so they can get away with it. Yet always blamed on out of towners.

I too was surprised when several weather sites called for 5-9" from a Clipper. Those are usually 1-4" events....

Definitely need to see a change in those temperatures after Christmas. Otherwise nobody will be riding.

I have heard as much as 10" on some lakes in northern Wisconsin. At least 4-8" on most lakes and after this next cold run I would think all lakes are fine. Just need to add snow and survive the warm up being shown for after xmas.

This is fantastic. Certainly a quick flip to cold consistent temps has been nice to see this December. Please remind us what area this is again?

Small lakes in Northern Wisconsin are already starting to ice over. This should go quickly given the forecast for the next 10 days.

I agree. The next week will have ice on small lakes.

If I was a club up North worrying about funds for grooming I would be getting that memo out now. However per the usual, its crickets from all the clubs I follow/ am a member of. I'm guessing its less of a problem then logic might indicate.

Heck most of the dock guys are probably still on vacation......

Yes, hard to be interested in a new sled when I put on very limited miles on my 2024. As it is, I would probably just buy a leftover 2024 that will be available at a significantly reduced price between now and the Summer.

what did you need the 2024 for three weeks ago??? lol....

Any club that didn't go out on sleds to pack the swamps two weeks ago when it was cold just doesn't plan very well. At least in Northern Wisconsin.

Not sending out the groomers would be the a dumb idea for the clubs. They get funding per hour in Wisconsin they run. The second 6-8" of good snow flies up there they will be running.

Pure stupidity to have an ice shack or ATV on the ice given the current weather conditions. I have zero sympathy for either person in your stories. It's one thing to zip across think ice at high rate of speed on a snowmobile but an ATV/sitting ice shack just makes zero sense given the thin...

We need those temps to drop next weekend 5-10 degrees. I was hoping the recent snowfall up there would impact the temps a bit but this warm front push on xmas looks strong. As for the lakes, I don't think they are far off. The small/medium lakes held up through the warm/rain last week and...
