I bought an 09 800 Dragon SB. All updates were done. No motor issues but the CPU fried out and replaced with a new one with all the current mapping. Runs like a raped ape now. I have no complaints with mine.

Best thing to do is get the VIN# and call a dealer to get the history on it.

Nobody wants them so they are going cheap. Like Ezra said, it's a roll of the dice but, for me, so far, so good.

You can fix anything that is broken but you can't fix engineering problems.

-10 yr old suspension technology
-spindle bolts coming loose
-tin foil bulk heads
-600 lb sleds
-darts like no other

need I say more? :D

There's a reason the yamaha section at the sneak peak was empty :p

Poo hitting record snow check #'s this spring

The hardest decision Indy has every day is what threads to bash cat on and what threads to bash Yamaha on. Since you mentioned the suspension tech, wasn't poo the last one to switch from trailing arms?

Just buy it... which is what this thread is about, not jacking on Poo. Buy it Nitro1970. I have an 09 800. Love it. Yes, I got the fixes. No issues at all. ALL manufactures had their issues one time or another. I hear just as many burn downs from other sleds of all makes as I do with the 800's. The fixes they made, have taken care of it, and I think it runs better and stronger than ever. The blow ups are in the past. Take Dave B's advice and do some dilligence and check the VIN for all of the updates. They extended the engine warranty 2 more years because of the problems, so they should still be covered.

So for a 1-3 year old snowmobile, you have to replace the brainbox to make it run right?

No you do not, half the people out there don't have problems, the other half do it just for the peace of mind, and the additional 5+ hp.

Unless you want to go around a corner and slam into a tree, you have to put power steering with new ski's and carbides on a 600+ lb yamaha.... Just sayin'!

Yes, they were, and what is so bad about trailing arms? They're stronger for one. Arctic Cat was the last to switch to extruded spindles, does that mean non extruded spindles are a bad thing? no

Just thought I'd say the 2 words "sneak peak" again :D

Just sayin what? How many miles have you put on these 600lb Yammy's? How many trees did you hit? I rode the piss out of John's Nytro XTX when he had it, never hit a tree, sheeeit, come to think of it, neither did he. A little advice little buddy, if YOU don't have FIRST HAND expierence on a certain sled, quit bashing it. Just because you read something on the internet, doesn't mean it is true. :)

Good advice "little buddy" :) !

I did buy one AND have ridden it. You will not get a complaint out of me on the Poo 800. Like I said before, it runs like a raped ape and I couldn't be happier with it.

I have also seen the Yammies tear it up off the trail as well.

Bottom line is, buy it if it feels right. If not, don't. There's a million used sleds out there for sale. Do your homework and make the right choice for you but you never know what can happen with these things. They are toys and ALL toys break at some point in time.

Bought a trailer from a guy with an 09 fx nytro xtx. I'll stop there before you guys think I'm crazy...

Fx nytros didn't dart, they were just tippy...

Apex's darted...

I have to vouch for Dave B. I have rode with him. The day after the JDee ride in we decided to see if our so called "junk sleds" would blow up. Well we made it back to Daves place many miles south/ south east of Houghton/Hancock running mostly wide open all the way Running in warmer than normal temps. His 800 and my 755 never faltered. My sled had all the service bullitin items done and some Slp items added. Dave's was bone stock. both running the best oil money can buy (not the cheapest). Not a problem. Daves sled did run like a "raped ape" and I was chasing him. Let's just say it was the quality gas we bought at the Mom and Pops with questionable 87 octane that made them run so well and leave it at that. Like Dave said, and I think he stole the quote from me, "They are machines and machines break". Just not ours on that day.
