09 Ford f-150 with Michelin tires

Just a question for those who run Michelin tires on there vehicles. I bought an 09 Ford f-150 crew cab with Michelin tires on it, The truck came out of Arizona ( so no RUST) but I find up north driving on the back roads, stone/sand ribbeled roads that these tires are very stiff. They are 20's . I even let the pressure down to 25lbs on all 4 and it helped but holy cow are they rough. I have an 02 Ford crew cab which have 18's on them with the Bridgestone Dueler Revo 2 on them and they ride way better. Is it the tires or do you think its is the suspension differences of the two trucks. Actually my wifes Mercury Milan rode better up there the same week. Any thoughts. maybe shocks or do Michelins ride that stiff. Thanks Todd

One cannot uniformly apply a generality to all tires of a brand as there are many different models and types. You should do a Google search on your particular tire and read user reviews, also read reviews at tirerack.com, you will get a larger sample of users than just the few on this board. You could also ask Michelin.

I remember when I brought my Audi from Southern CA back to Illinois I hated the tires I loved so much in SoCal. Could be just a bad tire for where you drive vs. AZ.

What is the load rating of the tires and the model of tire I believe Michelin tires depending on the tire have very good ride and high quality

Well you have less tire more rim than before. With that being said yes typically it will ride worse. I work with a 68 year old guy who took 20s off his brand new car and bought 16s so its ride nicer.

I had 18" ltx AT's on my 05 screw and they where the best tire I have ever had. Wish I could have had the dealer swap out for the same ones on my new truck but I will burn of these good years and go mich again!

20 inch tires are more for looks that anything. more tread less sidewall. They do not perform well off-road, mostly designed for smooth highways and bling.

You are running rubber band tires. I have Michelin AT2 on both of my SUVs . 285/65-16 on one and 265/70-17 on the other. They are E rated tires,and both ride nice at 35 psi. Look to see if they put some cheep shocks on it?

did they take the oem shocks off ? i am ford service manager, service lots of f150, no harsh ride complaints unless shocks changed

The truck is all Oem, stickers still on the shocks as well. Truck was ordered with the 20 in rims as I have the original window sticker. May have to try other rims and tires

What Michelins are on it? I have Michelins on my truck (20's) and the ride is great. It isn't the 20's, the other guys are thinking the 20's like on a car. The 20's on trucks have tall side walls like any other truck tire. Tires do harden with heat cycles and with them having been run in Arizona that may well be the problem.
