121" paddle track vs. 136" track

I've been contemplating getting a longer track sled. I have a 2010 IQ Shift with the stock .92 track and 1.07 studs. It doesn't do that well in deep snow. I'm trying to get around buying a different sled.

What would you recommend? What size lug? Studs on a short track with deep lug for good trail riding?

Any info would be appreciated J'Deer's!

1.325 cobra with 1.5 studs on the 121 i'm thinking would be good on the shift. Depends on how much off-trail riding u do.

121"x 1.75" no studs works good on trail and off rp7x ran one on his pro x for a couple years

Will a 1.75 fit on this sled? How much does one of these cost roughly?

How does that handle around corners and what size carbides should be used?

Thanks

once you go 136 you will be asking your self why have I been buying toy sleds my whole life.I think on trail a 136 tracks better no fish tail kinda. stuff spans bumps and ruts better.hooks up off the line better just all around better as far as turning you can hardly tell the diff after a day on a 136 getting back on a 121 blows.for more trail than off I ran a 136 1.50 challenger with studs for 2 yrs on a zr and it was fine on and off trail the rip saw I had was junk off trail but great on was happy I did challenger on that sled.

My last 121 was a 06 Mxz 600. Swapped the stocker for a 1 1/2" camo challenger and never looked back. My buddies were all riding Rmk's at the time, I never had any problem going where they went.(Average snowfall for NW WI). Had to be a little more careful about cooling the slides on hardpack. My experience is that lug height does way more than length. I could routinely run circles around 144"x1.25 switchbacks. IMO 1.25 is a waste of money. Go big or go home!!

Go with a 1-1/2 or 1-3/4" No studs needed. Just adjust your riding style and you should be fine. Went from a 136" studded track to 151 this year and I will never go back.

You can get cobras and ripsaws for under $400 brand new, a 1.75 brand new is gonna run you at least $500 since they aren't that popular.

I agree, my experience has been that lug height is more important than track length. Unfortunately for those wanting a "do it all" sled the deeper the lugs go the less trail friendly the sled becomes (eat hyfax quicker, bad on ice, etc....) with the trade-off being that it goes better off trail.

Next question is; where do I find the best deal on the higher lug track?

This year I just don't have the heart to buy a new sled. Maybe next year ;)

I ran a 136"x2" on trail and off for the last 5 seasons and never had a problem with excessive hyfax wear just add a extra set of bogey wheels or scratchers if you get a 121"x 1.5" or 1.75". Paddle tracks run great on hard pack especially if your get a hard compound track the really hook up

It looks like for about $500 I can get a 1.75" 121 x 15 track for the IQ. Does that seem unreasonable?

I was looking at Ken's Sports in WI and also Track USA but I think I have to call Track USA for prices.

Kens sports has tons of tracks, bought a ripsaw and hacksaw from there this fall. It was fun climbing around in their warehouses for the exact hacksaw I wanted for my dads sled, fully clipped open windows etc. Pretty good dealer, never had them do service though. mine was just 1/3 clipped and every 3rd window closed since that exact model was $340 vs. $360 for the fully clipped open windows. But, I do not know what pricing they will give you. For the hacksaw, We told them we saw them at haydays but didn't want to carry around the track due to the haydays screwups, and their pricing was 340 at haydays, but he actually priced it at 315 before tax I think because it took us an hour to find the right track.

I decided to buy the 1.352" Cobra. I ordered it from Ken's Sports for $417 with shipping. I can't wait to put this thing on. I don't plan to put studs in it.

don't get to excited

I think he'll be impressed with it, from what i read your mostly a trail rider that takes an occasional off-trail spin? sorta like me, and for what I do, I don't need much more than what I got on my sled now (1.25 ripsaw)

Also, the stock tracks are just straight paddles with no design or patterns really. Cobra actually has special patterns for better trail performance.
