it depends on which 97 ultra you are talking about.... polaris offered the single pipe ultra in the old "wedge" hood design...they also had the 97 ultra spx...triple pipes in the heavier "aggressive" hood style. the single pipe model was way lighter and more dependable...the aggressive package with the pipes was harder on the crank bearings... going back a few years to add my story to your match up...i had a 98 700 TWIN xc that was a VERY close match for the spx triple- triple...the spx may have had a few mph on the top end...they were rated at 140 h.p.. the twin was quicker out of the gate

unless the 98 xc 700 was modded, its only pulling about 120 hp
