2 Stroke E-Tek vs. 4-Tek or 4S Yam

I watched that video on TY and pretty much laughed! That ski in slow motion was distorted huge and re-gained it's original shape. Amazing! I agree a REV XP would of either went over it or crumpled the sub-frame. My bud totaled his new x package renegade in 2.4 miles with a 35 mph hit to a 12" RR tie retaining wall that was buried under the snow. Broke the spindle in half and tore the a-arms of out the frame. Insurance company totaled it. Being light does comes with a loss of durability..

I have owned several 2-strokes over the years, been snowmobiling since 1973. I am 46. My last sled was a Rev RenegadeX 800 PTEK. Love that sled, had 7000 miles on it 2 engines. I currnetly own 5 2-strokes and I was sick of buying oil. At the start of this season I purchased 6 gallons of oil for 216.00. I finally saw the light and went the 4-stroke route. Looked at the Yamaha's and the Ski-doo 4-tek. Rode a Apex and Vector all LTX's and the 4-tek Renegade. The Ski-doo was the lightest and had the best ride on and off trail. The Yamaha's are very front heavy and dove in the powder, ski lift in the corners on the trail, where the Ski-doo held the corners on the trail and when I stepped back on the running boards one shoe length I was able to balance it in the powder without diving in. I have owned them all and the current sleds Ski-Doo owns the market. I am glad Iwent with the 1200 4-tek Renegade, I now have 1100 miles on it.

Thanks for listening.

1200 4-Tek Renegade or MXZ-X it is

Unless something dramtically changes for me between now and buy time, I will be laying the cash on the 4-Tek. I'd love to have the MXZ-X package, but don't want to ante up for the spring special order, so I'll have to settle for what I can find. Wouldn't mind the renegade, but if I can get a shorty cheaper, even if I have to deal with the non-rebuildable shocks, I guess that's what I'll do.

Any dealers out there want to sell me a 2011 4-Tek you don't want to hold on floor plan till next fall? I'm all ears.

Alot of great input on this thread - this is a great site. And the reason I solicit for opinions here, rather than TY or Doo-talk is, I think you get more of an objective opinion without the brand loyalty.

Here's my post from a week ago on another website. Bought a used 2010 Renegade Adrenaline 4-Tech. I rode Cats since 1977

Got to put on 160 miles yesterday in northern Wisconsin. Conditions went from 28 degrees and hard pack to 61 degrees and somewhat loose snow conditions. Thank god for the slidekick ice scratchers in the morning. I installed those in the morning and they worked well. Now for the sled, 2010 1200 Renegade. The more I rode it the better I liked it. Motor is smooth as silk. Love the low 3000-3200 rpm engagement although it takes a little to get used to without getting wiplash. Motor pulls strong to 80-85 then tops out about 102. Riding this thing on the trails you don't even notice the weight or length. I'm not sure if the weight thing is even a big as deal as what people like to say. You have to ride this sled first to judge.

Handling wise this sled sled goes thru the twisties and handles like no other sled I have rode. Even the 08 XP I just sold. Seriously, it reminds me of my '97 ZR580. It just begs for the stutter bumps, you see them coming and just hit it and go. :p Front stays planted and rear eats it up even in the twisties. Lots of confidence riding this machine.

Now for my only dislike. The annoying clutch rattle, noise, resonance, whatever at 4500-5100 rpm. Jeezus, sounds like crap. The other one in our group does the same thing. Been researching it and sounds like maybe there are some issues with ramps and such. Shouldn't be doing this with only 1300 miles. Think I am going to drop some coin and put in the Cudney PB80 primary and secondary clutch kit. Sounds like it is the cats meow for this sled.

That's about it. Truly a gas and go sled. Looks like we're done riding unless we trailer up to Valhalla tomorrow when it gets colder. Should still be good up there. Couldn't believe how good it was yesterday even at 60 degrees. I wore a pair of gym shorts under my snowmobile pants and didn't even wear gloves in the afternoon. Mother nature sure is a beeyotch. Three week ago I was up here and there were record lows and yesterday there were record highs.

My reply to a guy about my riding style. The Renegade fits me fine.

What is your height, weight, age and how would you categorize your riding style?

GD. 5'10, 220lbs with gear, and soon to be 52 years young. Would say I'm a fairly aggressive trail rider, not a snow cross wanabe, but like to go at a pretty good clip. Throw in some occasional ditch banging. Don't mind lifting the skis over the hills and being a little airborne. I used to say if it didn't feel like I was gonna crash I wasn't going fast enough, but I'm not that bad anymore at my older age! :hypocrite:
