2018/2019 bears

Bucs had the #1 offense in the league coming into this game. Averaging almost 500 yards a game.

Week 4 of the 2018 season will always be remembered in Chicago Bears lore as the day Mitch Trubisky went crazy. After hearing the critics for over a year, the former #2 overall pick rain destruction down on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with six touchdown passes in three quarters of action. It was a pasting this city hasn’t seen since the 1940s. Yet amidst the euphoria, a lot of people don’t understand how great the Bears defense was.

Let us set the stage. The Buccaneers were the #1 offense in the NFL going into this game. They were averaging a whopping 473 yards per game and had scored at least 27 points in each of their games. Ryan Fitzpatrick had thrown for 400+ yards in all of those games as well. It was a monumental undertaking for the Bears to tackle.

Every quarterback is either validated or exposed when they face a great pass rush. Such was going to be the case again here. Fitzpatrick had to prove himself against Khalil Mack, Akiem Hicks, and the rest of that gang. He failed. The Bears collected four sacks in the game and Fitzpatrick was pulled for Jameis Winston in the second half.

It didn’t help. Both quarterbacks combined for three interceptions on the afternoon and failed to crack even 300 yards combined. Their running game was even worse, managing just 60 yards on 18 carries. Remember this is an offense that has Mike Evan, Deshaun Jackson, Chris Godwin, and O.J. Howard. These are really good football players and the Bears made the all look like a junior varsity unit.

Not only that, but they did it without starting cornerback Prince Amukamara for the entire game and stud defensive tackle Akiem Hicks for half the game. Hicks was ejected in the first half following a physical confrontation with one of the referees. The touchdown they gave up was when the game was far out of reach the Bears had already begun to substitute their reserves.

People weren’t sure if this defense was for real. Now there are no reasons left to doubt. It’s legit and the confidence they play with is only growing

I agree with above the rams are best in the league right now. Really really shocked that if you told me Minnesota would score 31 and lose by 7. Minnesota D was strong point but ya gota give Goff credit. Some of those TD throws had great coverage but he made absolutely perfect throws. That thro on the run to his right for a td was the thro of the year this far. Think Minnesota will be fine and is still likely team to beat in the north. But the bears are closing the gap.

Nagy had Da Bears O ready for a shootout with the Bucs and Mitch FINALLY had a breakout game!!!All of Paces purchases looked good too. I’m now thinking 10-6 is possible and Bears should win over the Fins. Tampa seemed tired and flat but a win is a win.

momoney, people didn't think the Bears defense was for real? Who are you talking to that states differently? Everyone knows the Bears defense is legit and was last year without Mack. And Tampa had a good offense but with Fitzpatrick, well we knew how this book was going to go as he has proven it time and time again. Remember, he has played for 7 NFL teams, i don't think your going to validate (or expose) his career, we know what his career by now...a NFL backup QB. Mack had another amazing game, a sack fumble and a tipped ball for interception, hes easily the defensive player of the year to this point. The Bears defense is great to watch and makes this team a playoff and competitive team.

As for the Mitch, great performance! Although the Bucks defense couldn't cover anyone (remember they started Chris Conte last week,,,a name no Bears fan wants to hear again), Mitch definitely took advantage of it. He had three TD throws to wide open receivers. The throw I wanted to see was the back of the end zone fade pass, that's a NFL throw and that's what we need to see from him and he nailed it. I expect him to make the easy throws, the NFL throws is what we need from him. For one game, Mitch looked great...lets see what he does with this against some real NFL defenses and hopefully he continues his growth.

Just looking ahead, the Bears have only 3 teams with a winning schedule coming up in the Pack, Rams and the Dolphins. Rest are .500 or below. And i don't think the Dolphins are that great and of course the Patriots and Vikes will probably get a lot better.

Pack looked flat but got the victory and made Rosen look like garbage. I have downgraded the Pack this year, they just don't seem to have.....something? Maybe a good go to receiver like Jordy. The Pack do always seem to turn it on when needed though.

Thank goodness I am not a Lions (or a steelers) fan, the Cowboys are not a good team and the Lions can never just put it together.

The Bears looked good but ..... Ryan Fitzpatrick is not a good Quarterback. He is a streaky quarterback. His hot streak ended. Don't get too excited yet. When the Bears beat a good team with a good QB then you can load the bandwagon. Remember they just barely got by AZ a week ago.

Exactly.
The only pass TD pass that was impressive was the the throw to Robinson. Everyone else was wide open and the one TD "pass" is basically a hand off.
Matt Flynn threw 6 TD's passes in a game and one wasn't a hand off so lets not get too hard.

Bears D will keep them in all games, they're ferocious. Anyone who knows football saw this blowout coming a mile away.
South Florida team coming up to Chicago with Fitz at QB and could see it a mile away.

Is what it is. Bears played the best I have seen them play arguably in forever. Even with fitz at qb that offense has weapons. I expected them to win but not in absolute dominating fashion. They made them look like a poor college team. I'm not getting to excited yet but the bears look to have a legit shot at playoffs. Mitch will get better and better. The rams is the real test. And the Vikings in Minnesota. If mitch carves them up. Well. Da bears are back baby.

I think for once I am more optimistic on the Bears than momoney! I am not saying they will win the division but they will be competitive. If, and i admit I am not as high on Trub as most, Trub can put together an average to maybe a little above average season the Bears will make the playoffs. No NFC North team has shown any dominance so far. All i know is that the Bears are finally, and its been quite some time, a fun team to watch and I can't guarantee that any game is a guaranteed loss.
Anyone see Mahomes last night......really putting together a nice season. Made the big plays, with defensive pressure, in the key moments. He has weapons galore on that team! Rams are obviously stacked and looking good.
And for tonight, a one game Cubs wildcard game.....a lot of hype for this one, should be a good watch!

Packers today IDK what to say 3 in a row Lions over Pack? It doesn’t seem the Pack have the players to dominate this year even with a mobile Rogers. Coach M needs to get this team on a tear or soon will be wait until next year. I don’t think it’s curtains yet for the Pack but not looking good right now.

X2 whitedust!!! Man , even their ROCK SOLID kicker fell apart today??? Unreal.

It always seemed the ball bounced right for the Packers the foot stayed inbounds and the fumble ended up in their hands and of course the Hail Mary was caught again and again. This year no luck at all ball bounces off the goal post and out no 3 points. Almost looks like the Pack used up all their luck this season in game one to beat the Bears.

As a lifelong Packers fan (and I will continue even though they look horrible right now), I can say this all comes down to coaching. I never like the current coach even after he went and won a SB. We start slow, the conditioning is horrible, we always look for the next series, next game, next season. I think Rodgers is one of the best QB's in the league and McCarthy is letting him down, the whole front office is. McCarthy doesn't report to the GM, he reports to the defacto owner. How is that supposed to be a good thing? The defense is bad, yeah they do. New coach, super young DB's and Matthews can't play much worse (bad penalties aside). I like when the division is competitive but the way the Packers are playing its like they are playing for a paycheck, not to win and that falls squarely on the coaches shoulders.

The defense is no good. The running game is no good. It is all on Rodgers and he is clearly not 100%. Every week he keeps getting hit again and again. He is not getting a chance to heal up properly. If he is 100% the Pack can beat anybody even with a crappy D and no running game. But that is not going to be the case this season. Vikes have their hard games behind them except for NE. The Pack have a nasty schedule coming up. Have to go with the Vikes for the division now unless Trubisky keeps doing his Joe Montana imitation.

Agree with you whitedust, on what it appears to be with the Pack using up all their luck. And that first game with the Bears in my thoughts has a lot to do with whats going on now, all the way around. But I dearly love to watch Rodgers, as I have seen him do so many things that not even Brady has come close to. I will say though, his "field vision" seems to be off somewhat since the knee injury??? He's got to find his "new" Jordy, as in the guy that is always there when most needed. I'll watch Rodgers as long as he plays the game, as I see him as one of the very, very, best ever. Perhaps the Packs dismal start will turn into a very good season at the end, and in the playoffs. We've seen that show before, in the Super Bowl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm one of the few who very much enjoy both the Pack, and Da Bears, as there is just too much history not to!!!! And the best is when they play each other!!!

watching that Packer game took me back to the 80's.
Dropped passes guys running wrong routes.
Stupid penalties
Horrible special teams, Kevin King and Crosby.
Poor coaching.
Just being completely unprepared.

Rodgers threw for 442 yards and three TD's.....with a lineup of receivers most people who follow football could not name. For my weekly pick 6 this week i took one look at the starting receivers and put my pick on Detroit. Of course Mason Crossbar really, really helped me! Its hard to win with backup receivers who the QB is not familiar with...and remember, Rodgers isn't overly friendly with rookie receivers. Jordy would be extremely helpful at a time like this.
Rodgers has obviously hid many of the problems the Pack have always had and it now seems to be just too much, especially being injured. You will not get Crosby to be that bad again but the Pack have not been able to score TD's instead relying on field goals, that doesn't get it done in a lot of games (sounds just like what i said about Bears minus last week)
McCarthy definitely will have to earn his victories this year, lets see if he can.

Same thing every single year except for 2011 and last year when he got hurt. The Pack starts crappy, Rodgers says something after week 6 or 7. The team goes on a tear, wins the division, and loses the championship game.

Every year at exactly this time in the season, everyone says, "Rodgers cant do it by himself, McCarthy cant coach, terrible defense, no running game."

Im not defending them, Im sick of this garbage too.
