indy you plated with the HO carbs? what the F is that starter jet all about why have a piolet if you have a (starter)jet?

No but my airbox is just as hard to get back on. I have it mastered pretty well, really have to position and push it in there the correct way. Once you do it a few times its cake.

I have gotten pretty good at changing jets, 20 minutes for two carbs 10 minutes of cussing at airbox. This old fart like CFI. Joe you and Indy are just happy as **** to be riding! Cooke or Lava this winter boys?

Almost 8000 miles on it. Changing the jets wasn't what took so long, getting the air box back in there was the problem, until I put the SLP kit in it, then, I could stick my whole hand down in there to make sure the boots were on the carbs properly. There was one time out in da woods where something happened, can't remember what, where I had to pull the air box, and then I could not get that sob back down in there properly. There was one point where I was so pissed I threw the air box about 20 yards away. LMAO, good times. That was before the SLP kit when in it.

I might have asked you about the SLP kit before, but what does it cost? What does it do other than making jetting changes easier? Any downsides to using it?

you more or less split the air box take out the air horn and foam.you can buy the kit and get the bigger air horn that mounts to hood plenum. or just gut the air box and not get the horn (what I did).I think the kit also give you 2 more intakes to cut in to the dash.I just got the frog skin covers and cut in 2 more holes.this more or less makes less restrictive better flow.after all what you have is nothing more than a air pump and the more air you have to pump the better off you will be.
the DIY cost is less than 20 bucks.if you realy want the horn it is the same horn for all there kits from the old trippels to today plenty used to find but I dont think with the iq air box design it is needed

I had a 2006 Switchback 600 carbed version and now have a 2010 RMK 600 CFI. I had put over 6000 miles on the 2006 without an issue, changed jets on it a couple times and absolutely hated it. As everybody has mentioned, the airbox sucks getting it in and out. The carbs are even a challenge compared to my previous 2003 edge. I took my 600 CFI out west and it was so nice, no changing jets, no monkeying with anything! I have also noticed that my CFI gets better mileage than the carb version did.

It is called getting older and wiser, Indy and winter time could easily be my kids and I love them both. I was just the same. They, right now have way more time than money so jetting is more fun and challenging to them then us older folks. I have mastered it being "Dutch" but jetting is not for everyone. Look forward to this winter and riding with Joe and his Dad once again out west!!! If an air box is an issue and holding tools in your hands is an issue, then go CFI. Myself, I will do either carb or cfi and be happy I am riding.

When I took my Fusion to the snowies last year, I had a Polaris dealership in Laramie rejet it for me. It cost $60 for labor if I remember right. The reason I paid them to do it was because we were planning on riding in Wisconsin or the UP and changed our plans due to snow conditions. Since I had zero time to get to where my sled is stored and rejet it prior to the trip, didn't want to mess with jets on the trailer, and had a little fear of messing with the infamous IQ airbox for the first time right before a trip, I thought the $60 was well worth it. I still have to change it back, and I'm not sure I'm looking forward to that job (it will be done this summer some time). I did change the clutch weights outside the hotel, but that was fairly simple.

pic 2 is what I am acustomed to. Make note: when reinstalling carb (i remove it far enough to turn it sideways) make sure you are in the carb boot completely (motor to carb side) and clamp is secure as to not create a lean condition, I have had the boot fold over before but caught it before starting sled. air leak on carb to air box not so severe but connection should be made to keep out snow or warmer engine compartment air. not sure what the little spagetti sized lines are for but look like they shoulb be hooked back up too!

Attached is the Fusion airbox. I haven't had this apart yet, but I assume the difficulty is getting the carbs back into the boots (#6) while there really isn't any room around that area for your hands to go???

I came back to this old post and would like to thank everyone for their input back in May. I'm VERY lucky that this guy still had the 2008 RMK 600 144" with 700 miles for sale!!! I'm offically heading up to Duluth this w/e to pick it up (first sled of my entire life!!!). I'm so excited that I will have my own sled, no more being at the will of my father in law and when he wants to ride!!! I intend to do a compression test when I get up there, but if anyone has any personal experience with this sled/ motor, please let me know if there is anything else I should be aware of. I will post some pics once I get it home. I owe a lot to johndee.com and all its great members that have helped this "newbiee" get going in this sweet sport! THANK YOU!
