the only chance left if for as many people that are avoiding signing up continue to blow it off.
looking good so far a solid 40k people have enrolled .LMFA yeah I can see how urgent a crisis it was.
the young are not idiots I don't see them spending hooker and blow money on health insurance the working poor are going to blow it off until they are on there way to the er.
all we can hope is it is the disaster as designed and is so deep in the red the country votes it out in a future election.
got to love the 40k people to date flocking to get insurance what a joke.
I am close to dumping my insurance and only working for barter and cash to help do my part to bankrupt this monstrosity before it gets a firm grip

Another difference between auto insurance and health insurance is the more risky drivers pay a much higher premium. Now, with health insurance, the less risky are paying more while the risky pay less. HUGE difference!!

Yeah, and that's one of the more interesting discussions when considering "reforms" to health care. In auto insurance there is a correlation between behavior and risk. If you drive poorly, live in a high crime area, etc., it increase risk and costs, therefore you pay more. Your behavior drives risk.

In health insurance that is both correct and incorrect. We know that certain behaviors increase health costs...smoking, obesity, driving snowmobiles into bridge abutments, etc. But some illnesses are just there...cancer, autism, Alzheimer's, etc. They are not behavior related, there is no correlation between behavior and risk. But yet, they drive costs, and insurance companies have either made premiums prohibitive or refused to insure at all. But the person has done nothing "wrong", it is just a condition that exists.

Does that warrant uninsureability, thus driving the costs of social programs and possible financial ruin? Interesting question for our society to answer.

1) Because you should have at least some responsibility to pay for your health care. Quit sticking me with the bill. The system is far from working fine, emergency room treatments cost far more than regular care, and if they are uninsured I get to pay for it. i don't like that.

2) I have no idea how you think that YOU are paying for ALL to have insurance. You are paying for YOUR insurance. ALL the people who do not have insurance will need health care, ALL of them. I do not wish to pay for that. YOU pay for YOUR health care. Your statement about if people WORK they will EARN health insurance is a total misunderstanding of insurance in America. I am self employed. I WORK. I have to buy insurance that is prohibitively expensive on the individual market.
As info, only 44.6% of Americans get employer paid insurance, and that number is declining. 28.4% of the population is uninsured or individual plans, that is 93 million people. http://www.gallup.com/poll/152621/fewer-americans-employer-based-health-insurance.aspx

3) You are confusing the issue here. This system is totally different than Canada's. This is not government run health care. These are insurance companies (not the government) paying providers (not the government) for your health care. Same system as now. Modified, yes, but same system. In case you are interested, the US system is called "Multiple payer/Multiple provider". Canada's system is "Single payer/Multiple provider", a socialist system is "Single payer/Single provider".

To just uniformly brush off all Single payer/single provider systems as socialism that doesn't work negates some of the finer health care systems in the world. Might I suggest you read this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_health_coverage_by_country to see who has socialized medicine, and contrast it with this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Health_Organization_ranking_of_health_systems to see how those countries are ranked by the WHO.

Note that the finest health care system in the world is France, which is a single payer/single provider system. Other notable countries with similar health care ranking above the US (Which is #38 in quality but #1 in cost) are Single payer/single provider.

why is it we all have to accept the premise health care is a right?
yeah yeah we need compassion screw that life is tough! if u did not plan ahead and u have no your credit to pay your bills oh well hope your family saved enough for a pine box .
HEALTH CARE WAS NOT IN THE CONSTITUTION.
the older I get the colder I get. that is what yrs of watching abuse gets u .

i find it comical and sad altogether that obama thinks he can give affordable health care to every person in america and after 30 days they can't get a simple website with 4 choices on it to work.

one again people are just accepting that the bill was built to deliver quality affordable insurance to the masses.
nothing could be further from the truth .
designed to fail from the word go. it will all be blamed on the evil insurance corporations {as planed} next step 1 payer.
all just progressive steps.

No, first they'll have to blame it on Bush.

I had the honor of watching Obummer yesterday while I was in my docs waiting room. He has the balls (obummer, not my doc) to blame the AHA rollout failure on the fact that the government is not very good at technology issues. Wait a minute, what about the NSA? If this happened under Bush watch liberals would be calling for his impeachment. I once was told government workers made more $ than the public equivalents because they are smarter and better trained? Was in not Michelle O's college buddy that was suppose to design the AHA website?
Funny the liberals had to pull Bubba out of retirement to tell Obummer to scrap the AHA replacement issue for now, election time is coming up.

These people are frauds and people need to wake up for crying out loud!

There, now I vented, back to your regular scheduled program.

I agree Mark this is a lot more difficult than I thought it would be! Stats say older folks with pre-exisiting conditions have signed up could not get health insurance before AHA so they are coming in droves. Young healthy folks seem to be by standers so far not signing up. This skews the costs big time & not going to be affordable if the current trend continues. Still not sure what to do for wife & daughter but so far their insurance costs increased $1000 a year for same coverage as last year. Maybe things will work out in time but so far much higher costs for us.:(

whitedust,

There are for sure going to be some good stories out there but the sad part is for every one of those there are 100 like your wife's and daughter's. I would have never guessed it could get as messed up as it has. Time will tell I guess. Good luck!

My 21 year old son was rejected for health insurance for a minor heart issue, he got insurance last year through the state of WI high risk pool. So why aren't older folks with pre-existing conditions getting coverage through the high risk pool? The monthly premium is needs based, so it can be made affordable if incomes are not very high.

What I understand about AHA regarding prexisiting conditions is don't ask, don't tell & don't care companies have to insure you regardless. Before AHA companies would not cover prexisiting conditions or would charge big money now they hope people of good health with low costs will off set the people in bad health high costs. People in good health don't sign up & the program goes upside down. Very early so far so might work but off to a very dismal start.
