Am I NUTS!

I told the wife that I wanted to have two sleds. One for trail and one for off trail. She told be happy with the one I have, but also do what you want with your own money!! I know people would be happy with one sled, but I bust my rump throughout the year and have some stash money, figure it would be nice to have a ditch banger along with the long track. Am I nuts?!

As a wife - I don't think your nuts at ALL!! Life's short...and he who dies with the most toys wins!! After owning a mountain sled starting this season - I can totally see the need for both. Heck, bigdaddy has sleds for when he's riding at a more casual pace and then when he's riding with his diehard riding friends. Oh and another sled for trail + boondocking.

If she told you "do what you want with your own money!!" well, no offense, I wouldn't necessarily believe her. Guess it all depends on the tone.

That's why bigdaddy lives by the golden rule of "it's better to beg forgiveness then ask permission!" :D

No you are not "nuts".
But being an accounting professional, I would have to call this a misappropriation of financial resources, and personally I could never justify it with my own money.
Get the best cross-over, or sled that will give you the best of both applications, and be happy with that.

I thought that when I got my xf cat 800, but she's a pig in the twisties! Can't keep up with the shorties in the thick woods when it's back to back to back back turns! That's why I figure have one when riding with buddies who have shorties and then ride with the buddies who got long tracks. Best of both worlds, right?!

Thank you winding trail girl, it's nice to have the thinking of the other foot. I know what she said, but it's one of those things, does she really mean it, or just saying until I come home with one and I'm sleeping with the dog! :)

all depends on where you live and ride also.for riding around my house lots of curbs lots of roads to drive down salt in all the ditches and lots of lake riding.
for me long track for the UP out west and the 1 or 2 dumps a yr worth playing in.then a pos 8yr or older lake racer curb climbing road riding post hitting watter skipping drivway jumping low to no snow ridding semi beeter

If that's nuts then I am insane. Back in the day I had 8 sleds for myself. Two sleds is normal. Trust us. Live by the code, we only live once, live it! Every day you are dieing, get what you want. Your not here to figure it out and get a redo this is it, go for it!

No your not. I'm almost 17 and have 2 sleds. Really want to sell my 2nd one with this bad snow year, planned on riding it around home but when its February 22 and you've gotten less than 15" so far and never more than 3" on the ground, its time to get rid of it. I've put 75 miles on it in mercer. Still has fresh clutches, bearings, everything, nobody will give me $1500 for a sled thats practically got everything brand new except for the crank and pistons.

Why get rid of it after just one bad season? Wait til there's some snow and someone willing to buy it. Then upgrade! :)
Bigdaddy never gets rid of sleds. He rides them til he gets a new one and then that one becomes a back up sled until it dies. Then when it dies it sits in our sled museum!

Well, certainly not for the reasons you mentioned. Sleds have become like skis - they're very purpose oriented. The sleds I'll admit to owning are a long track, a crossover, and a pure trail machine. Granted, the three of these together wouldn't cover the cost of a new sled but it's nice to have some options and it's fun to experience the different rides that they provide.

I get a similar reaction when I mention what some might consider a foolish purchase but to the better half's credit, she sticks by her word. If it's extra money I've made and I'm not shortchanging the family budget, she never questions it. I well aware that I'm a very lucky dog.

I don't really belive in the most toys wins theory, been there doing that. Get what you need. A trail sled and a mountain sled, then a job that let's you enjoy both.

LAUGHING out loud at skiroule and reiley!!

Problem if his wife rides, tho! If bigdaddy bought me a sled (which he has) I wouldn't let him ride it. But then again, if he's buying one for me? He's probably doing it to cushion the blow that he's buying one for himself too!? :D

bigdaddy says "You won't have to sleep with the dog for long...get yourself the sled you want!"

PR1 - I don't think bigdaddy really thinks that way...but it's just working OUT that way and he'll roll with that theory! :)

UH OH!! She didn't mean it!! It was one of those..."Do what you want...you will ANYWAY!" type comments. Your 16 year old DOES need her own sled!! My 14 and 12 year old's already have their own sleds - the 12 year old's is NOT new but a good sled...and the 9 year old can't wait to ride the '05 Switchback.

Sell the 2-up - when there's snow again and someone really wants to buy it! - because it's time has come and gone in your family.

Oh, you can't TELL me it's any worse than when you're camped in the same quarters with your snowmobile buddies!! Get a heat tape for that doghouse and some ear plugs...and be NICE to your wife - like not suck up, yucky nice - but do what she asks and help out around the house and stuff. Bigdaddy is NEVER nicer to me than when he does something behind my back...it's his tell...and I USE IT USE IT USE IT!! :)
