android or iphone - something new to argue about

I'm finally joining the smartphone world...not sure if I should go with an iphone or android. Looking to buy one or the other this week. Looking at either the iphone 4s, the galaxy or the photon. I get a good discount with Sprint, so I'm staying with them. I don't think 4G is a factor right now. I do like the larger screen with the androids but I am told the iphone is a much better "starter" smartphone since it's much easier to use out of the box.

Any thoughts/preferences? I assume most will prefer whatever they currently use, since that's what they are used to. Just not sure what to start with - hard to know with just a few minutes at the store with a phone 100 people have messed with the settings already.

All of verizons coverage is supposed to be 4G by the end of 2013. You can bet Sprint will not be far behind. Especially if Sprint buys T-mobile. No Iphones are 4G.

Other than that, go play with the phones a few different times at your retailer and figure out which phone you like the best. People can argue for their phone til they are blue in the face, but it doesnt mean jack if YOU dont like the phone.

I have a Android because it is the best choice for me. But maybe it wont be for you......

Go Droid. You wont regret it one bit. People say apple is easier but I think its just a myth.

Just one of my many reasons to not buy Apple = Al Gore is a board member.

Love my iphone, have never had a thought of going to droid. Everything works on the iphone first try and if you already have you music in itunes the transition is simple.

I have a android phone like it a whole lot better then my wifes iphone. Too restrictive. Androids platform is more open to what you want to do. Basically apple is like a spoiled kid doesnt want to share. Android is the opposite.

I went from Blackberry to Droid, such a wise choice. Don't think I will ever go apple with the iphone, the appeal just isn't there.

do you use MAC at home or work? if so go I phone if not toss up
if not using a MAC at home better ? is why not

I just got my Iphone and love it. Very easy to use, but so is the android os. I almost got an android but the deciding factor for me was the size of droid phones. You might as well carry a tablet. The iphone is thinner and not as long, easier to carry I think. Again this is just my opinion, both have all the apps you will ever need.

I like BB. I had a Droid for 2 weeks it was too hard to text for me. If you are just looking for a phone to email on,text and use as a phone and easy on the battery. I like to charge a phone at night and not have to worry about will it make it all day without charging. If I need a computer I have a laptop and wireless card.

Boost Mobile. $3 a month. I do use my iPod a lot for e-mail, texting through Google Voice, etc. works just perfect for me.

They do make smaller Droid phones and not all are huge. I have an LG Vortex (it is a year old or so) and love it. My wife just got her first smart phone and likes her HTC Lightning Bolt. It is too big for me but seems nice. Keep in mind ANY 4G phone with a big screen is going to use up the battery faster.

I say if you're not an iPhile get the Droid.

Love my iphone, have never had a thought of going to droid. Everything works on the iphone first try and if you already have you music in itunes the transition is simple.

Not to start any arguments here but I transferred ALL 1700 of my songs from itunes to my Droid in about 15 minutes. Super simple and trouble free. There is free software out there now that will just about let you do anything you need to.

I was a long time BB user (3 phones over 7 years) and used to tell everyone and anyone that would listen how great my BB was. Then I traded up to the new BB Torch which was supposed to be RIM's answer to the iphone and the android based phones. What a joke! I used it for about 2 months and then sold it on ebay and bought a Droid. I CANNOT BELIEVE I WAITED THIS LONG TO SWITCH TO ANDROID. This phone is awesome....period. It has excellent phone reception, super fast browsing capability, built in wifi and not too mention as many apps you could possibly EVER need! The phone was so easy and fun to use, my wife (another BB user of 7 years) jumped ship when my mom gave her an old Droid 2. We are both happily surprised that we DO NOT miss our BB's at all.

+ we have Google TV and we can stream video, pictures and music directly over our home network from the phones to our flatscreen through "the cloud". Not too mention the phone will operate the GTV and directv also. So as scott_b pointed out, the apple toys play nice with the other apple toys as does the android toys to the android toys, but remember theres always two ways to skin a cat. Your new droid will do all the things you want it to and more. And it likely will also integrate friendly with anything else you need it to.

BTW this would have been an awesome thread to have a poll on................

What's a Droid? ;)
That's what we call them here. Android a smart phone from Verizon. Way to complicated for guys like Skylar. There is a learning curve. It is a phone that does it all. I have apps on it that have snow reports, snowmobile trails, Facebook, Dictionary, Email, texting, weather, news from a dozen sources, web cam, camera that takes great pictures, calculator, calendar, alarm clock, maps, navigation, weather radars, bluetooth, timer, mp3, netflix, a bubble level, camcorder, google earth, flashlight, ebay, fox news, altitude finder, latitude finder, Gmail, AOL, emergency alerts, music, Paypal, pinball, Quick office, solitaire, Bar finder, Wikimobile, local TV, yellow pages, Youtube, trip advisor, Zedge, bar scanning for price comparisions and checking prices on unmarked products, skype, Photo gallery, compass, kindle, car docking, Pandora music and a bit more. that is a Droid. I have the Droid 2 by Verizon. My wife has the droid Revolution with 4G. We run our business from where every we are at. I can send an estimate from my office to your wireless printer. I have Internet by Wifi, phone or satelite. It is awsome. I can talk to it. Example: "Find Pizza" and it will map me about 20 Pizza places from closest to farther away and give me ratings on the pizza and address and a number to call. If it is say Pizza Hut It will place the order for me to their computer and it will be ready or delivered and I can pay for it via electronic banking or credit card. same with Hotels and other businesses. It makes me money. Droid............. I can take a picture and send it to Facebook, suppliers, the office, customers, Jdee site instantly. No taking film to get developed and then mail pictures to get to customer in 3 days. Oh and video teleconferencing, I can walk thru a job site while my customer is in Barbados or Switzerland and they can see me and their house at the same time and we can discuss their project and make changes and show progress without them having to fly home. Did I say it makes me money......... Droid...........lol
