Bayfield ride Saturday with woodside

Saturday morning I got up early and trailered up to Bayfield to meet woodside (Gary) from Woodside Cottages and his brother D*ck. (Can't spell the name or all I get is **** LOL) We arrived right about 9 and were on the trail about 9:45. We had 80 miles on by 1:00 when we stopped at the Pub 'N Grub for lunch. Ran into Jeff Fisher from Sled Head 24-7 and some guys from Snow Goer magazine there. Speaking of Snow Goer, if you can find the February 2014 edition, you will find a 6 page article starting on page 32 about riding up there with Gary and his brother, and all they do for snowmobilers and guests to make their ride enjoyable. Gary took a group of 5 of us along with him and lead us through a super 120 mile ride, mostly on forest roads. There are so many forest roads up there it's just amazing. There is one intersection where I said to Gary "This is a 4 way intersection of forest roads" and he replied "No, it's a 5 way intersection". There were 5 choices to make and they all looked good! Gary amazed me how he knew each and every one of the FR's like the back of his hand. Very impressive and he's a great rider also!

For early season riding, we couldn't have had more fun and the snow was good. It was better than I had anticipated. I can't believe I had never been to Bayfield before, but I will be back! What a beautiful area that gets overlooked by us snowmobilers. I would highly recommend the area and even more, Gary, D*ck and Woodside Cottages. You could tell Gary has been doing this for years, he just couldn't have been any better of a host, and he's a great guy to boot! Thanks again Gary for your time and knowledge! I also have to thank this website as the source for meeting another great JD'er.

P.S. The Axys is all they are saying it is. Ride one if you can.

Never been there. Have been toying with the idea of coming up over Christmas break. any suggestions on a cabin in that area to bring wife and kids? Kind of looking for a nice, clean, non retail place.

I have to say Woodside Cottages. Give Gary a call there at 715-779-5600 or visit their website. Gary is happy to show his guests the area as well.

Both 600's, but both Switchback's. Gary had the Adventure and mine is the Pro S. This motor seemed stronger than my 2012, but I'm guessing it was more the weight loss of the new chassis. The new rear suspension is as smooth as I've ever ridden. The front is rock solid as always. The sled also had very little to no inside ski lift, it was unreal. Can't wait to put more miles on it. I'd love to try an 800 HO as they sound very strong!

Is the Ski Doo next to mine by the trailer the same as you ordered? His was a 600 though, I think you ordered an 800. He now has 190 miles with no issues other than the new "key" still was giving him issues.

Looks like a great day! Gary is super and his cottages are awesome! I stayed in one of Gary's cottages for a girls weekend 2 years ago and had a blast!

Stumbled on the Valhalla, Barrons, forest Rds in the middle 80's. We were on a several day ride & staying in Ashland--the area looked interesting, took the trail West to Ino & then North. Have been making 3-4 trips every winter since .The area was very popular in the 80's, 90's & early 2000. Chuck's C Side was very popular, always very crowded, as well as the pitstops in Corny, Herbster, & Port Wing. Somehow the area lost it's appeal. I ride mainly forest roads, occasionally riding in to Corny or Herbster for fuel/food. Pub & Grub is a very popular pit stop-very good food, & fuel. Doug is taking a real interest in the trails and promoting the area. Rode there this past weekend, met a few sleds Sat, none on Sunday. Woodside, that must have your group at the parking lot on Star Route Rd. We took theksingle track out of the lot.
