240 miles

It would be about 240 miles round trip, but many of the trails you can make very good time on. That would be without doing any side loops. I would recommend to get going earlier in the morning so you have good trails longer. Another option would be to stay the night in Copper Harbor and hit some loops and do some sight seeing. You may be rushed to do it in one day at 45 mph. It's a great place to go if you haven't.

Yea thats what I thought. I met a guy last year that told me he did it in a day But he was by himself and a seasoned rider and for me its more about sight seeing than gunning it from corner to corner. And Ezra your right I got deadlines at work do not need it when i am having fun.I was trying to save a little cash by not using our base in Rockland it would cost some $ But i will take that advice and Probably spend a night in Copper you think i should reserve a place in Copper or should we wing it O and any suggestions for a place to stay.

We did it no problem. We stayed in Rockland left by 8am and was home plenty early. We had a few stops on the way and way home. Had to stop at the Gay Bar.

If you make it an overnighter, the next day you can go out to High Rock, over to Lac Labelle, The Eagles Loop before heading back to Rockland.

Stay at "The Pines Resort" in Copper Harbor- food, drink, bed & reasonably priced.

I don't think it would be a problem if you kept going. A few years back we had a smaller group of 4 and we went from Kenton to Copper Harbor and back in a day. And that is a bit farther than Rockland. My wife and my buddies 15 year old son were in the group riding their own sleds. They both still ride and love it!

It is probably as easy of a ride for a newbie as you will find. But, why not enjoy it. To do it in a day you will not have much extra time for side loops and site seeing. If you are introducing someone new to this area, show them some of the beauty of the U.P. They will not get the full enjoyment of the area if you are out to make the whole trip in a day. If you are out to enjoy the area, stay the night closer to half way(The Pines or Lac La Belle Lodge). If all you want are the miles, then do it in a day.

newbies

Newbies to the rideing up north or newbies to rideing? There is a big difference! My nephiew HAD a girlfriend who went on a day trip with us ONCE. She loved to ride for an evening here and there BUT a 3 hr truck ride a 11 hr sled ride (bonus miles) and a truck ride home was the end to her sled rideing. This story is to reflect what could happen if a long day trip is planned and things don't go as planned. You could always give it a try but don't keep going if things get out of hand.

PS If I was going to tru this I would leave at first light and then if things go good I would add side trips and more loops on the way back. The Freda loop is one of my favorites, trail 121 and 120 near South Range.

Keep in mind that the newbies should see the beauty of the trip. If you do it in a day, alot of the trip will be in the dark. You wouldn't get back till after 10:00pm and it gets dark before 4:30. Spend the night and enjoy the daylight scenery.

I agree with others. We tried it a couple years ago and had some slower riders and didn't make it. Copper Harbor is a very nice place and you need to take some time going up the hill to take in the scenery. I would stay and leave in the morning. They have a very nice bar, restaurant and you can get a massage at the place in Copper Harbor. Like someone said if you are just looking for miles go ahead but if you want to see stuff I would stay over and take your time.

Shush, those are secret.:p

It is pretty easy to make the whole loop in a day. But I would take the extra time for the noobs and really enjoy the trip. There is a lot to see.

We run out there at minimum once per week when we are up there. We often drive Wakefield and back in a day. Many of those trips have been full daylight the whole way.

Eagles Loop? I am assuming Eagle Harbor.

Doable, yes. Should you? Probably not with newbies.

We did LG to CH and back in one day. It would have been a long day if we hadn't have lost the bolt that hold the ski onto one of the sleds, adding that in made it less than fully enjoyable. It is a beautiful area, take the time to enjoy it.

I would get reservations and I have always stayed at The Mariner North. Everything you need there from hotel rooms to cabins with heated floors. Good restaurant and bar and they even have massages available there for your sore back!

Another loop you have to take in the Rockland area is the Trail #13 loop that goes from behind Pat's Yamaha in Greenland and comes out on #3 by Twin Lakes. Best loop in the area IMO! PM me if I can hlep any further.
