The storm currently dumping all the snow in the northern Rockies will get better organized in KS later today and then track north into MN tomorrow. By tomorrow night it will be sitting near International Falls MN and is indicated to have a central pressure of 963, which is equivalent to a category 3 hurricane and stronger than the 977 low that sunk the Fitzgerald.

Looks like some accumulating snows on it's back side in ND, MN and maybe even portions of the western UP.

What size waves are expected on da big lake? Hopefully the winds don't take a lot of trees down!

20 footers.

Hope there is not too much tree damage either, especially that big oak in the back yard.

I hope it does'nt get too bad up there.
I remember going through 20 and 30 footers, when I was in the Navy.
Fun times.

always look forward to the first storm....but holy cow!!! After all the hard work every snowmobile club in the U.P. has done on the trails this could be a mess, but its all part of it up here, so we'll have the chainsaws ready :)

WOW! I just looked at the West Cams - GIDDY!

I was geeked when I heard snow in the forecast... then they said northern MN - bummer. I am hoping for a big arse Halloween Blizzard... I guess I have to wait one more season for the 20 year anniversary of that storm...

Hopefully those trees can take the pounding...

Wow, sure sounds neat/scary. I hope everyone is safe.

It's neat to kick of the season with a good one but I'm not interested in damage.

The NWS just put us in a Winter Storm Watch for Tues into Wed. 4 to 6 inches of snow predicted. If it blows like they say we will have ten foot drifts. The Apex is pointed out the shop door.

Pretty tough to find out much with the local forecasts on the true details of this storm. We were planning on driving up to Michigan today. Two new sleds waiting up there for us.:D Manufacturer wants them out the door by the end of the month. Any idea where the snowbands/wind will be the worst? What online resource do most of you guys/gals use to find the most accurate info for this information?(Other than John's forecasts, we rely on those during the winter)

I would not be too concerned with the snow. An inch or two at most in mainly the western 1/3rd of the UP. Maybe 2-4" in the higher terrain of Gogebic County.

High winds will be all across the UP. S-SE today, then SW tomorrow morning turning westerly late in the day. Strongest later tonight through tomorrow.

Thanks for the info John. We are towing a 29' sail, so the winds can be an issue. Looks like today is the day.

Better sit up straight, and have your hands at the 10&2 position on the wheel today. That 29footer is ganna be whippin!
