Companies that do not support snowmobiling

Wow, I should have known REI would be into this.

I won't be renewing my membership next year. I just bought some MSR stoves too. Grrrrrr......

As someone who enjoys skiing, boarding, snowshoe hiking and snowmobiling, this is irritating.

The supporters of these organizations are the first people to call in helicopters and rescue teams when they get lost and hurt in the back country. I hope they don't expect motorized vehicles to rescue them either.

maximumpsi - of course, they wouldn't do that! That would upset the peace and tranquility of the situation they are in!

Each outdoor sport, club or group has their agenda and what they believe in and support. I believe each one has their valid points regarding what they support. That being said I enjoy many outdoor sports and purchase many things from and by those supporters and will continue to if they make great products and they support the outdoors in one way or another good, bad or in different to some.

I was just at REI 2 weeks ago and could find nothing made in America in boots or clothing - I found that annoying.

I can say I have never had the desire to go in to a REI.I know what they are all about just buy looking at the parking lot.one may think it is a used car lot selling only Subaru and Volvo wagons but you would be wrong.just a meeting place for liberal tree hugging douche bags to go pay 2 times more for a north face jacket to wear when walking around a down town park.I don't think you could give away a razor if your life depended on it to that crowd.but you would prob be trampled if you set up a wool felt clogs stand in the parking lot.

Huh, I wonder if I started an organization to encourage the elimination of the THOUSANDS of gas guzzling cars, trucks and motorhomes that pass through Yellowstones gates each summer, would I gain sponsorship from these same companies?

Doubt it. It is always easier to pick on the little guy.

no I am sure you would get allot of support. They wont be happy until you have to stand on the WY border with a telescope to peek in also no fly overs. It is the same crowd that wants to ban eating meet because of the gas the live stock creates.so maybe we just all eat dirt because we cant eat beans because of above reasons and kill all the animals except the polar bear of course.

Dang my Keens are the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned and there is a black diamond avy probe in my pack. My whole family is clad in Columbia coats. Am I just screwing myself? In one way or another we all directly or indirectly support those who don't support our intrests. I say close Yellowstone completely not a sole is allowed not even the tree hugging greenies that want us out. If they are that concerned about the welfare of the parks wildlife then they should understand that their very presence no matter how they got there could be a disturbance as well. Close it seal it up throw away the keys no one allowed at all ever! Arguments over!

Seems like a good argument to buy Klim, Arctiva, RU Outside, etc. Vote with your hard-earned dollars!

The list below are sponsors of Blue Ribbon Coalition, which is precisely the opposite of Winter Wildlands (BRC motto = "Preserving our natural resources for the public instead of from the public") I don't know if any "name-brands" are on here, but it's a good place to start:

You will drive yourself crazy trying to avoid a company, or organization that helps the "enemy". If you look at big business contributions, you will probably see contributions to both republican and democrats, "green" organizations, and "polluters" like us. It is PR, plain and simple. Some companies are really consistent, such as Patagonia, but most are in it for themselves. Do your best to give the companies you think agree with you your money, but it is tough. I think Patagonia is nuts, but they make the best quality clothing, bar none. Very expensive, but the best stuff I've ever owned. I guess I shoot myself in the foot, but its a warm, comfortable foot

I does far more good to write the company and let them know that as a PAST buyer of their products, you won't be buying anything from them again, and then let them know why!

Do NOT underestimate the value of a good letter and the impact it will have...or perceived by the seller of goods. Nearly all companies are feeling the pinch because of the economy, and if they feel that their position on anything controversial is costing them business, they will likely recant...at least publicly, and that can be a positive thing for the cause you are working for.

Never underestimate the power of the buck.

Ezra you nailed it with why I won't shop at REI anymore. I used to enjoy that check every year until I realized I was paying too much for everything in their store. One of the reasons I won't be caught dead in a Starbucks is because of your razor theory on the men (probably the women also) as well as the crowd that hangs out. Can you say Caribou Coffee!
