Jim where does Conover take over grooming taking the Twin Haven Trail to Conover??

Pete, we groom all the way to TH and Dublins. Both are unfunded trails.

Maybe they gave up with the WI trails closing in two more days?

By law, WI trails can remain open thru March 31st, not the end of Feb. We rode Vilas into the last week of March in 2014 and about the 10th of March 2015. Last year we were cut significantly short by the melt down that started Feb 19th.

Regarding Whitedust and his criticism of the trails, IMO he is typically accurate. I too prefer smooth trails & avoid Fri night/Saturday. Sunday isn't usually too bad traffic wise. I believe most that read my reports here and Snowtracks/Conover then ride our trails that day will find them accurate. I base my reports considering the time of year. What I rate good in early season would loose a grade level in January, ect. But I also consider that I am in northern WI. Our trails by location alone should have more snow & cold to build from than Marathon County for example. Taking that into consideration, our good may be a very good in central WI.

Now lets be honest, who doesn't prefer smooth trails and light traffic levels? Not one person here, even the ones busting WD's balls. Understand, we live here and ride here, typically weekdays. That is the norm for us; The conditions we base our "good, bad, ugly" from. If we seem critical, that's why.

So, does this mean they will still be open next weekend? Thinking of going to Presque Isle.

By WI State law, yes trails can be open. Will conditions allow? Check mid week. A bit more snow in NW Vilas.

WD, I must say i been reading for many years about your sled and grooming issues. I respect you very much so dont take this the wrong way, but enough is enough with this Yamaha thing. Good buy a skidoo renegade and stop complaining. Many people tell you this and you just keep on and on and on. You will no longer be looking for a groomer. Grow some, come out of the closet and stop complaining. Hopefully you not get upset with me.

I haven't seen any "Yamaha" comments in this thread from Whitedust. First you tell him you "respect" him but then you tell him to "grow some"??

Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.

LOL I just messing with WD and yes i do appreciate his trail updates and the way he calls it like it is. Just trying to get him to upgrade his sled , someone needs to razz him.

UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, Trail 17 from Phelps to Shangri La Road and Trail 6E from the Fire Tower to the Forest County Line has been CLOSED
This came from the Phelps Snowmobile FB account.

Told you all Phelps trail conditions were bad on Saturday afternoon ...now those trails are CLOSED. :(

Standing water or bare

As of today Phelps trails have plenty of snow, some wet spots no grooming for a very long time lead to a late season wet and bumpy mess. Check Vilas club websites for who is grooming many are not grooming for different reasons but their call for their trail segments. Sad but true for end of Feb. :(

I waited until evening to update the Snowtracks report, hoping to hear an official status but I haven't heard one.

Temps in the high 30’s with sun yesterday and cloudy/damp today. About 1/2 of last Friday’s snowfall is gone. Trails are thin & ungroomed with bare sports, road crossings are bare. No snow in the forecast with 40’s by the weekend. Expect water/slush in low areas.

Phelps has closed all trails except for 6W towards Lando/Conover and ER has closed the 10/13 WI river crossing. Most lakes have been unmarked & are questionable.

There is talk of a county wide trail closing coming soon & truthfully, I support it. At this point, I recommend not riding. Trail conditions are poor or worse.

I have heard today that Vilas trails will remain open thru the weekend. Trail conditions are poor or worse but should stay about the same until Saturday when traffic levels & temps will climb. I expect they will deteriorate to unrideable over the weekend.
