Came across a fresh deer kill on the NST 2 weeks back. Fat doe missing hide from her chest and no sled parts scattered about.... must have been a perfect hit. She was still rectal warm . i ain't no trail side gutter ,...just hope someone harvested her.

RECTAL WARM ??? What the .... does that mean?

Two weeks ago a guy hit a moose up the north shore on his sled. Anybody familiar with the area from what i understand he was riding on the 600 road.

I had one jump out in front of me on the North Shore many years ago. Not so close that I almost hit em, but basically the next step back from that level of closeness. Probably around 2004 or 2005. Enjoyed his easy walk down the hard groomed trail for a hundred yards or so, then exited back in to the brush.

Seeing moose on rare occasion is one of the neat things about riding in the Arrowhead of MN.

Wrecked my sled on a deer there last year. Bruce crossing.

We saw a crapload of deer in the same area last season as well. No bueno since they were hanging out on a high speed part of trail 8.

run over a deer yesterday and damn thing jumped up and basicly gave us the finger before taking off , at that point a skunk with its tail up came wondering out and we damn near ran each other over trying to take off . last thing I would have ever thought seeing in the winter . trails around Lake Mille Lacs were great

I think anyone that spends time on a snowmobile will see deer. I rarely don't see them.
Saw several today near Remer MN. 2 yesterday near Hill City.

I think the first time I rode the expressway up by the gunflint at night...perfectly smooth trail for miles then all of a sudden its a rough random mess of fresh potholes and trenches on and around the trail. After about a hundred feet of it my brain finally clicks that its moose tracks crisscrossing the trail and my heart skipped a beat as I was glad to not have met one on the trail just then...

I hit one this past Saturday night on east shore road. That’s the second one I’ve hit in 4 years. Same general area. I’m sure it won’t be my last.

Is 13 north of the Root Cellar open? Was told when I was UP (MLK weekend) it was looking like it'd open the next weekend.
Or were you riding East Shore road because of other reason.

Don’t know if 13n is open, I was off trail all weekend . I hit the doe about 3 miles south of the Root cellar on east shore rd. There’s a small White House not on the lake, and their feeding the deer. The home is very close to the street. I’m surprised I only hit one , there was about 2 dozen in his yard 10 feet from the road.

Tom is funny. Listening to him and wife arguing about orders back there is funny. We stopped in there last yr for breakfast one morning and he had a closed sign up. So we went in and asked if he was open and he said for snowmobilers he was open but he would leave the sign up to keep the bird watchers out.

We've seen 3 moose this yr so far. I was surprised last weekend where we were that we didn't even see a track with all the fresh snow as it was the same area we'd seen the others this yr.

Last year at 3:00 a.m. in the morning about 10 miles west of Grand Portage round a corner and I'm looking at a gigantic brown butt in front of me. I'm like what in the world? Then it turned sideways and my brain kicked in. O that's a moose.

Saw over 100 deer last night between Eau Claire county trails, and Clark county. Even saw an idiot mobile. 5 guys had a 2500 HD Chevy stuck on the trail right at the Eau Claire/Clark county line. They had driven over 6 miles from a main road. Bar in Rock Dam called cops to let them know, but I don't know what happened. They were all adults, had half a tank of gas, and food. I really didn't feel sorry for them.
