I haven't been to the races at E.R. for quite a few years. Decided at the last minute Sunday to go. What happened to the crowd? There were no nears the big crowd that I remember. Very few on the front stretch.

They were all in the hot seats and mfg suites staying warm, -20 wind chill. There wasn't one that wasn't crowded.

I've been saying I'm going to go for quite a few years, and I haven't. Tough to just sit in the cold and can't justify the club house seats. I think the combination of no snow, poor trails and cold, kept the crowd down.

Please tell why? I was there in 1985-86 race when the high of the day was -20 below zero. There were a lot of people at that race. Some inebriated more than others. Great times freezing and exchanging pleasantries. I love ER and the people.

Seams like all winter racing has been going downhill for attendance the last 10+ years. I remember when a club would have a simple radar run and there would be 100 cars and trucks lined up watching with a crowd all over. Last one I was at there was maybe 30 people watching.... Same thing with motorcycle ice racing.

I think 10 years ago you could have had a lot of decent riding in by middle/end of january, with some of the weird Winters we've had lately, I think people are trying to take advantage of what little snow there is in the Midwest and ride instead of watch? Jmo, I went once when I was 8 or so years old, keep saying I'm going to go back every year but am always riding that weekend.

Yup agree with Indy. Only so much time and money to go around. You gonna pay to stand around and watch someone else ride or drive another 1 1/2- 2hrs and enjoy riding yourself.

the whole event is a cluster*&^% and people are tired of it. Both weekends need to be combined into one. The finals on Sunday should be condensed into about 3-4 hours. Nobody wants to sit outside in -25 below weather and watch plows go around a track and groom.

Entrance prices are too high for what a spectator gets, and oval races are stopped midway for pit. Two reasons why I stopped going.

I am guessing it is a combination of things in general

The temp this past weekend did not help at all, being able to watch it on line did not help the attendance at the track (I had it on the TV all weekend, there is a few things they can improve on but did a pretty darn good job with the online streaming), the other thing that has always bothered me with Eagle River is the amount of down time in between races and then you have the cost to actually get in. $75.00 for a weekend pass, $25.00 for Sat. and $30.00 for Sunday. I have been to the actual races twice (most recent about 5 years ago) and I live in Minneapolis area. So by the time I drive over there, get lodging for the weekend, food, admission and what not it adds up in a hurry. People where complaining about Hay Days increasing the admission price (there you get races, swap meet and LOTS of vendors). ER you get races and very few vendors).

Will I personally go back some year YES, still great races and a great venue.

just my $0.02

The Wausau 525 seems to be growing every year. It's a great track, and they run a good show. If you haven't been there yet, I suggest you give it a try.

oval has been dyeing for a long time . now the main followers just cant get out of the nursing home or drive at night or on ice to get there .
but they can stay home and watch re runs of Steve Austen saving the day

When I was a kid oval was king
my gramps and uncle both did it. even local clubs had oval lake races
just like sno x now they all had kitty cat class at every one.
I raced those .
MN state fair grand stand was first one I remember racing in. I got the jump to 1st no flag man and I took the whole track like the big guys were all day . unfortunately came in about 3 min behind every one who took the infield kitty cat rout . think that was last yr they ran a sled race there.
IMHO they should bring 1 back to that old school venue

girlfriend wanted to take her two kids to Friday night event. she couldn't justify the $90 for the three of them. I don't blame her, i am sure a lot of people felt the same
