Last night I got accepted to university of Minnesota's engineering program! Pretty excited, and I'm most likely going to attend there next fall. Gotta find me some members that maybe have an extra sled that I could tag along with in the winter because home will be too far away, But anyways sledding is a second to school. Also good to just know people on here who are in the area because usually we are all so similar.

That's great news SledTL. What made you pick Minnesota for Engineering? My son is looking at colleges now, we will visit Purdue very soon to check out their Engineering Program. Illinois and Mich. Tech are considerations as well. Good Luck!!

Congrat's - tough school to get in these days

Don't have too much fun - That's a very competitive program there.
Have to stay at the top of the class to get into the classes.

To be honest, don't judge me on any of this, but Purdue and Illinois both were VERY influenced by Asians and Indians. Minnesota was very welcoming not like the other two schools that were kinda like yeah you know we are a top school so we aren't going to try and attract anyone except the top of the line people. That's not to say I'm not a good student because I got a 30 and have a 3.6 in all AP classes. Plus I wanted a big ten experience and the cold doesn't bother me. Find out when they have their college of science and engineering open house. I went last summer and it was the best thing I've ever done, you get to meet with the department chairs and it's all about engineering not like a typical general school visit. I know a bunch of people from the area who go there and so going seven hours away won't be an issue. I'm also waiting for Wisconsin Madison, but it comes down to Minnesota being a lot cheaper.

Hahaha I'm sure I'll quickly find that out. As for xsledder I'm looking at industrial engineering and systems management. It's a brand new undergrad major this year so it's awesome because it's a small group in a massive campus.

Did you check out Kettering (GMI) in Flint?

No I didn't, I know we talked before that it is an amazing school but I really wanted to go big ten. Just my personality

Congrats! That's a big accomplishment, so be proud of yourself. I'm in an extended northern suburb of the Twin Cities, (at least I tell everyone that) and as Ezra said, there's no riding around the U, but you can go to the west burbs for some lake riding, the luce line, and a some others, or head to the extended norther burbs to connect with a pretty extensive trail system (so long as there's snow!) Either way, as long as you've got a way to get outside of downtown, it's either the west burbs, or northern burbs that will have the closest trail systems.

I didn't doubt that there was trails nearby, it was just the issue of finding someone with an extra sled that would maybe let me tag along. Who knows if that will ever happen because according to john global warming cancelled this winter LOL and probabably all the ones after this.

my buds kid just started bio medical engineering at the U. his older brother did the same thing got out and in to 6 figures for a first job. The U is a great school. if we get pounded and u are itching bad I always have a extra . but I only ride out here (western burbs) after a big dump but deff some good riding less than 25 min from your school.
heck bring your sled to school few places out west guys keep there sleds right on trail all yr not to much money like 200 a yr. u would be on the luce line and that sucks just old grade but connects to lots of good trail and river and ditch with in 5 min

Congrats! Sounds like you're on your way! You can still ride in school. I did quite a bit, and I went to college in southern Indiana. You can ride over Christmas break and spring break, or take a 4 day weekend once in a while. Being in MN, I bet you can find a way to keep a sled close by if you really wanted to.

Unless global warming or the government kills it, sledding will be there when you're out of school and have a paycheck. You'll have some distractions in college you won't have any other time in life, so enjoy them while you're can and worry about full-time sledding later...

Sure keeping my sled at school will go well with my parents haha. There is probabably a million kids at the school who ride too, just gotta find them. With the jobs and what not I'm really pumped because they keeping talking about the success of all their graduates. Have to survive first, but still outlook is good.

I forgot about that one. A friend of mine is an IE. More business oriented than the other engineering disciplines. He's involved with QC/QA of assembly lines. Got his BS in IE twenty years ago from Iowa State. Got his MBA this year. Good luck.
