Yesterday 20 mile morning solo ride, 70 mile ride with the fam, and 20 mile night ride with the woman for dinner. All in all trails held up just fine! Yes, it refroze and the corners are very icy, anything that was in the sun and was getting slushy froze as well. Be careful and enjoy the last few days of great riding! Looks like it’ll all be over by the end of the week. Heading out shortly for a solo morning ride then will do a 50 mile loop with the fam before heading home.

Ran along hwy 8 on all freshly groomed this morning to Monico and back burning the last bit of gas out of the beater Indy! Then, once the little man and woman woke up, we did a fantastic 50 mile loop east of Crandon. Little man did fantastic this weekend and keeps looking more comfortable every mile we ride. Got to take my daughter out this weekend. Doesn't happen too often. Didn't ride a ton of miles but it's not about the miles. Had a great time. We rode primarily SE Oneida, Forest and Northern Langlade. Overall, all the trails were fair to good. Had a great time but I'm afraid this is it for our trails this year. Maybe 1 more UP trip this season, we'll see.

Indy, how is the traffic over in the forest/florence area? I hate riding in Vilas but always love exploring new areas. Obviously need the good snow like this year, but those trails look pretty dang nice. The less trafficked areas can hold snow and good conditions so much longer.

Way less traffic. Definitely not UP type scenery, but the clubs that way groom as often as Vilas, but without the traffic. Yes, they often are a bit behind Vilas (and obviously the UP) when it comes to snow. There is not much in the way of lodging over there, so that’s why you don’t run into huge crowds. Majority of the trails are wider, less twisty similar to the UP, but there are still certain trails/areas that are “Vilas” tight/twisty.

It's a very good mix of grades, forest roads and tight twisties. Clubs do a great job grooming as Indy indicated. I tried to ride today up in Spread Eagle and the trails are so hard / tight I was overheating. First time that has ever happened to me. Installing scratchers today and will try again tomorrow and see how that goes.

Pete...you will be happy to know I'm finally getting them installed :)

We needed our scratchers Saturday morning, but after some traffic, they were no longer needed by mid afternoon, or Sunday for that matter. I did however set all of our sleds torsion springs to 1 to get them to sit lower and get the flap lower to the ground and keep the snow underneath.

don't know if they were off brand ones but see an awful lot of cable ones at stops missing the ends of the scratchers, just a cable hanging there, or not making any contact to the ground. Met up with buddy last week and when on road to Eben ice caves he had scratchers on his Grand Touring that were a torsion spring type with a square I'm assuming carbide or hard metal square at end of spring turned on its side so the corner did the scratching and it seemed it was mounted under by running board and not to the rails. I didn't look closely but thought system was much better than cable but not sure.

That would be the Skidoo tunnel mounted scratchers. The end pieces, are hardened metal, not carbide. The tips do not last super long, but can be flipped to use the other.

Now days freeze thaw a rider has to be prepared for all trail conditions. I overheated with my 900t on front part of trail in skimpy snow on 107 asked Ken to drop his scratchers got on his butt and cooled down. Next time out I had doo scratchers installed but never put them down but know I will someday.
