Who knows.... startled or just didn't see him.
Who can see out the side of their helmet anyway

Ridiculous someone passing someone crashed, nobody else was involved.

I would like to hear from a blocking sweeper. What is the logic? Sooner or later the faster sleds are going to pass you so why not pull right let them pass in a safe manner over in seconds. To all you blockers: All you are doing is creating an unsafe dog fight for the trail there is no need to do this! There will always be faster paced sleds than you just let the faster sleds pass what is the big deal??

Guess I didn't figure the obvious needed to be stated. But yes that's a risk someone takes when they chase someone down.
Whether on the trail or highway cause they are mad about something. Maybe that's why the Dad stayed quiet.

Is it that common in the UP on sled or car to go on your own chases? Kinda like Dukes of Hazard.

As the highway signs say around here "Pass with care" (or just don't)

Glad to hear you're ok. Sounds to me that you weren't in control of your sled and took for granted that the family knew you were there. They have just as much right to go slow on the trail as you do fast. But, you better be in control of your sled when you enter a corner or come upon slower sledders. Luckily no one was hurt. Exactly what's the hurry to get past these slower groups? I can't count how many times I slowed down and to the right to let someone pass only to get roosted in the face doing so. Completely rude in my opinion but I expect it now.

I kind of find it hard to fault a scared kid for not stopping when the rest of his family is speeding off.

You made the decision to try to pass, you deal with the consequences of your decision.

Count your stars that you didn't hit the 4th seld and send it into a tree. Talk about a pissed off momma.

Glad you're ok, hope you learn something from this experience.

I agree with these well-stated observations. You shouldn't have passed - I never pass and wait for the group to stop or otherwise pull-over to allow you to pass. I've been in both shoes - both the "slow" group when the girls are along and the fast group. I always move our slow group over to the side and stop to allow someone to pass. I always keep the fast group patiently "in line" and wait for a stop sign or the group in front to move over.

I am glad you are okay and hope you learn from this experience as well.

sounds to me like mom was prob pissing and crying about people passing the night before and JR knew darn well what he was doing and knew from past expereance there would be no blame pushed on him.
all I can say is I dont think I would have moved over and it would have gotten alot more uggly real quick.
sound deff like a intentanal situation dont think I would have left with out a call to the cops and there insurance company

I was thinking the same thing. Mom had been bad mouthing all of these guys passing a family that is moving at a slower speed. Junior thinks he is going to act like a tough guy and show you that you need to slow down and not ride so quickly past his mother. In this situation I believe the blame falls on the mother. Dad kept his mouth shut like he did the night before because he understands what the snowmobilers were doing and it was easier just to agree with the wife.

i may get beat up for this but oh well, can i ask what's the big deal with getting roosted? By no means am i conding the behaviour. But we are all wearing helmets with eye protection right? If roosting is the only thing that happens, things aren't all that bad are they? I dont go around roosting people, only those in my group when they deserve it. :) So dont go blaming me for being ricky racer. Just ignore the roosting and move on.

If you waited for the people in front of you to pull over in order for you to pass, you wouldn't get ANYWHERE. People just never look back anymore these days...

Welcome to the WI Northwoods Indy very different than wider UP trails & farm fields near your house where you can get around slower riders. If riders don't want to give you the WI Twisty trail after asking nicely you either take it in a straight & hammer that sucker & your 700 is min HP to do that or you suffer for miles while you & your buds suck in all the 2s exhaust mile after mile. I'm ok just me so I can get by with 150HP but with a pack you got a big problem. I'll ride with 2 maybe 3 total but larger pack than that it is like storm troopers going by slower sleds.lol They should pull over let you pass or slow & wave you by but most seem to think they can ignor you like you will turn into vapor rather than let you pass. I don't get it either but the way of the WI Northwoods twistys.

When I ride in larger slower groups I'm usually the Caboose of the train, and I'll slow down and wave faster riders by, but I'll only do it in areas of the trail where safe passage is best for Myself, the others ahead of me and those that are trying to pass. so sometimes it may take a mile or so for someone to get the Ok from me and that's were some Patience that was mentioned earlier comes in handy. no need in getting in a big hurry and ending a ride early because the trail wasn't fit for your safe passage and a small bump, skip or sneeze caused skis to entangle. just my 2 penny take from the sweeper end.

A mile really is not much to complain about that is fine no problem.:) The problem is the trail blockers & they don't seem to care if it is 10 miles or a 1/2 hour they are not going to let you pass unless you get creative. I have faked these blockers hard left scoot by on right next blocker sees that fake right scoot by left on 107 & trail 8. I checked mirrors & both these blockers where just about over the berm behind me thinking I would be blocked. Its like are you kidding me!!!??? So much room to pass asked for trail at multiple stop signs long out looks & straights & still refused to give me passage that would be over in 2 seconds. Just plain rude & agressive IMO.:) I never made contact with anyone sled to sled ever I know when to hit the hammer & I know what my sled can do or I would not be riding it. I do think faster riders have their sleds set up better than slower riders & actually have much better control of their sleds than the slow pokes so they can rider fast safely. I can ride over a bridge on trail 2 at 95mph hold that line absorb the bumps like a walk in the park & I know others can't do that & some are on the edge at 45mph. Just not the case with a well set up sled & a good rider. Just so you know their faster pace is not reckless jsut a good pace for them.:)

no arguments from me, I've been on both sides of this coin/issue. I have been down trail 8- east of Gwinn running 95-105mph in the fast groups too. I mix myself with the slow pokes and the racers! :)

Lager groups? Ones who just left a bar after a few beers?

P.S.: Sounds like good advice.

Sorry, just wanted to get to 800 posts. ha..

Only for YOU, catalac, would I stoop to put another post on this thread! Congrats!

Whitedust - per usual, the voice of reason!

Indy - you know what he's talking about now that you've spend most of your time in the twisties of the Northwoods of WI and now had some UP seat time. So glad you made it UP this season.

Judgmental jackwagons should keep their opinions to themselves!

Hilary high horses must have a FAR way to fall. I see tree stands that aren't nearly high enough for the self righteous few!
