WAPL's 'Funeral-4-Favre' promises a bit of fun at ol' No. 4's expense

TwitterNews that Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt is asking for suggestions on how to “tastefully’’ welcome back Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre for the game against the Packers on Nov. 1 made its way to Minnesota, where ideas posted on the St. Paul Pioneer Press Web site included:
•“The mayor should give him the key to the city and then change his mind at the last minute and cancel the ceremony.’’
•“Encase Brett in the Pope mobile.’’
But leave it to the wise guys at WAPL (105.7 FM) to have come up with their own festivities all by themselves: a “Funeral-4-Favre.’’ Think of it as a form of closure, “a way to honor his Green Bay legacy, but move on, for cripes sake,’’ according to morning show co-host Len Nelson, who will preside over the ceremony with fellow co-host Rick McNeal.
It all goes down from 3 to 6 p.m. Oct. 30 at Tom, Dick & Harry’s in Ashwaubenon, where early plans call for a possible funeral procession, complete with a hearse, coffin, celebrity pallbearers, and — we’re afraid to ask how or what kind — a body.
Fans will have a chance to leave memorials, like their favorite Favre memorabilia, and what’s a funeral without beer and music? (May we suggest former Packers quarterback Don Majkowski to sing a stirring a cappella rendition of Poison’s “Every Rose Has Its Thorn.’’)
“We’re hoping to make it not too vicious,’’ Nelson said. “Put it this way, we’re going to bury him before the Packers bury him on the field.’’
Official details are to be released later this week, so stay tuned.
