" Not one of you can tell me of a negative experience you had because someone didn't signal you "......Quote

Your right , but I can tell you about 2 other sledders that got a negative experience.
2 guy's coming at us , last Saturday, 1st guy comes at my son, Matt flashes him the #1 signal, the guy just looks at him . I just happen to see this and as he approaches , I crank it to the right and " Whitedust " him .... almost immediatly the 2nd guy puts his hand up and signals ! That's what I call " learning how to signal"....

Enough story telling, back to preparring for the blizzard.

was the first guy out of shape veering towards your son? Did you whitedust him because you were mad he didn't signal back? I'm not sure I follow you here.

I use them when it's safe to, and when I know exactly how many sleds are behind me at the time. I must admit, I wish most people would keep their hands on the bars....Or simply slow down to oncoming traffic if you're gonna use hand signals.

I'm just story telling... sharing the love... yes he was out of his lane. Don't take my post the wrong way. I kind of like to know what is coming at me. No disrespect intended.

"Not one of you can tell me of a negative experience you had because someone didn't signal you. Most of you jumped on a sled one day, flew down the trail and seen fingers flying and just started doing it without thinking it was necessary or not so it has become habit, bad habits are hard to stop, kinda like smoking,,, he he he"

I believe the "most" of us took a safety class at age 13 and was given a endorsement to ride by the state!!!!in the state on MN if your born after 1\1\85 you need to take the course or you cant ride here......

I'll tell you what, maybe we need to get the state involved to put up traffic lights for you people, warning lights, maybe best yet a center divider....rofl. Maybe the feds can send some cash this way also for experimental gps controlled sleds, you could never make a mistake than. I can totally understand you guys not having the ability to understand what's happening around you. I can understand you needing help to make it down the trail safely. I'd probably put throttle stops on your flippers, turn signals, back up camera's, horns. I think 3-4 airbags will suit your needs also. What else do you need to FEEL safe, How about some counseling for encouragement, after all, the risks your taking is quite hazardous and that is not emotional healthy.

Seems it just rubs many of you the wrong way that not everyone will signal you. It has been stated on here that we should all do one or the other, kinda like mandatory health care which by the way was judged unconstitutional.

Not one of you can tell me of a negative experience you had because someone didn't signal you. Most of you jumped on a sled one day, flew down the trail and seen fingers flying and just started doing it without thinking it was necessary or not so it has become habit, bad habits are hard to stop, kinda like smoking,,, he he he.

Seriously, I don't care if you signal or not, I prefer not to even in the safest conditions. I think it's best to learn the skills yourself rather than having someone do it for you.

I hope the nice color and font gives you a warm good feeling, It cn HELP you to feel safe, you never know when that mouse could slip off next to your keyboard and bang your ankle

Lenny - Just my opinion, but I thought your analogy's were a bit over board there don't ya think? Just trying to put it in perspective. No matter which way we choose......, to each his own. For the folks that choose to use them........, I just hope your in control of the sled when your coming at me or anyone else. For those that don't........, ride within your limits and we should all be fine. As mentioned above........., I've never heard of an incident where an accident was caused by use or non use of hand signals. Get out and ride everyone!! haha.

Random Thoughts about hand signals: (And this is all under SAFE conditions and what one feels comfortable doing!)

Lenny, I always respect what you have to say and I get your point. I'm not real big on pink, but as a girl I'll say it sure did look pretty! (thanks Miranda Lambert)

As the sweeper, I always hold up my fist then kinda wave after. I think it's more out of respect... "Hey, I know you saw the 2-5 sleds in front of me...but have a nice day and I'm it for MY GROUP!!"

To me, it's more of an information thing - I can take it and use it however I want. If we cross a group that doesn't use signals, I'm OK with that BUT it does make it easier if I know how many more to potentially expect in winding trails where I'm pretty much stopped because it's so tight. Judgement + some additional info!

Even if I end up riding in the middle of a pack, most times I'll go ahead and signal outta habit (and I don't consider it to be one of my BAD habits - lard knows I got enough of those!) but also out of respect. There've been times when I was busy riding and didn't catch what the first riders signaled...

I drive a Jeep (for 18 years now) and give a "what's up" wave to fellow Jeep drivers. It's an old tradition and I have no clue how it started...if I don't get the wave back I don't say what an a-hole...but if I do?...then it's "Hey Fellow Jeep-er"...maybe the snowmobile signal thing is similiar to that???

I took the safety class when my almost 13 year old did and it was one of the topics that came up. It was one of the best conversations for the whole 8 hour course. There's no mandate, there's no law...it's just something sledders do to help their fellow sledders out. A group of guys in the class where just field riders from down state IL...they'd never really ridden trails. On a break they asked me about this signaling thing - after some discussion my final comment was "Really? It's just a courtesy thing we do..."

just my 92 cents worth!!??!

I have to tell another story. It seems like everytime I say something to support safe courteous snowmobiling, within days I'm ready to throw it out the window. A different thread I commented on respectful " passing " , that was until some group of hoople heads wouldn't let us pass for about 5 miles ( #$%& me ). Then the other day I supported hand signals, ( since I'm primarily L-dog ) .... well on Friday , we went to " Wayne's World " aka Polarisrider1. I can see why he only rides off trail. Never the less we specifically went to the " frindge " launched from Wellston and headed towards Kaleva. On the return home we stumble across a group and their #1 LEADER is coming around a blind curve, on my side with me coming right at him . ( I will admit to excessive speed but always on my side ) What does he do ???? jerks the bars over, as I stand up and throw my hand up ( signaling *** ) and then.... HE SIGNALS 5 ??? just as the ski's pass 1" apart. ( WHAT ? ? ? 5 MORE LIKE HIM ) Not to mention that their #4 is still driving right down my side of the trail at me. That literally upset my day for at least 1 hour. IF I could vote again it might be " I hate all that DO "....

Im for signallng ,but at the right times and places condition dictate everything ...I had that happed to me yesterday we where in big drifts ,it was a long straight away guy want to signal me and almost falls in to a 10'' ditch with 5' of snow *** .Commons sence isnt so common!!!!
